I would suggest that you quarter your pills and ease into your correct dose. You are not used to the T3. Adding T3 too quickly can cause some unpleasant hyper-like symptoms such as headaches and nervousness.

Until you get used to the T3, I would suggest that you divide your Thyrolar into two or more doses. They do not have to be equal doses. I would also suggest that you take it with a little food.

Thyrolar 2 contains 25 mcg of T3 and 100 mcg of T4. Since T3 is supposed to be four times as strong as T4, you have effectively doubled your dose. Thyrolar 2 is roughly equivalent to 200 mcg of T4 only. While some folks can switch cold turkey overnight with no ill effect, there is no way of knowing in advance how you will react to the T3. I suggest that you go slow.

If this turns out to be too much T3 for you, it is possible to take a lower dose of Thyrolar and add some Levoxyl or other T4 med back in just like some of us do with the Armour.

One further suggestion. Start the Thyrolar on a weekday morning when you know the doc is in the office.

I visited Dr. L on Saturday. He was very thorough and explained to me all that I would ever need to know about thyroid disease and the history of tests and medicines. I am glad that I made the visit. I have 2 doubts still in my mind, maybe I can call his office again, but thinking if you all can help me with this:1) On 100 mcg of levoxyl, some of my thyroid symptoms have resolved(hives and allergies, extreme fatigue), and some symptoms still exist. So I thought that just a little bit more of the med will do for me. But he prescribed me thyrolar-2 which is approximately twice the dosage of levoxyl that I am taking. Do I really need that much? FT3 and FT4 results are due tommorow.2) Do I need to increse the dosage slowly or just stop my 100 mcg levoxyl and start the new medication? Thanks for your

help,Nil__________________________________________________

ONe warning:

I did okay on 10mcg of Cytomel (synthetic T3) but when I tried to

take 20mcg I had an adrenal " crash. " I can't explain the feeling

except for I felt extremely hyperthyroid, I couldn't sleep, I was

severely agitated, I felt as though I was having panic attack after

panic attack and I couldn't control my emotions.

I have had the same reaction to Armour thyroid and I have found that

the ONLY solution for me has been to take Cortisol (because my T3 IS

low) so that I can tolerate the T3. Now, I am having no problems

tolerating the T3.

YOu may or may not have adrenal issues...one thing that is for sure

is that you WILL find out if you have them while trying to switch to

Thyrolar.

If you cannot tolerate Thyrolar, you may want to ask if you can try

a small amount of Cytomel (10mcg) in combination with your T4 meds.

Also, you might want to try Unithroid instead of levoxyl, I hear

that it works much better. I haven't had much success with Levoxyl,

I actually like $ytheroid better...
