You are handling a serious disease for a long time, and as I remember you are one to tackle any project which often is exhausting. Anger and depression are two sides of the same coin. Let me send one of those that lisbeth sends so well. I hope you are feeling better by the time you receive this. Sometimes getting down in the dumps is appropriate to the situation. Guest guest
Mel, good luck with giving up the smoking habit. I figure that if I could do it, anybody can. I had smoked for about 34 years and was up to at least three packs a day. You have to make up your mind that you're going to do it, and then stop. I am no longer a slave to the habit, and I feel so free. I've never had the urge to go back to it, because why would I want to spend my hard earned money for something that just goes up in smoke? If you can stop for three days, it seems to be downhill from there. You just take it a day at a time. Good luck! Guest guest
yeah i figure it's time now it's so dumb though, i had given up for 5 years and then took it up this year again, grrrr never again! am giving it up and never going back! take care mel > > > > i will be starting on sulphasalazine and directly after christmas i'm > > giving up smoking (yes i know not good, but i just can't give it up > > before then) and then i'll be back on my naturopathic diet and really > > concentrating on my exercise >
Guest guest
the diet is basically just a good healthy diet no - wheat, dairy - lots of fresh fish (which i hate, so i take fish oils and try to have tinned salmon quite a bit) - soy products are good and if you get the right milk it's actually quite nice (i always hated soy stuff) - nuts for protein - pumpkin seeds and other seeds are good too - no coffee/tea (herbal ok) - no crap (preservatives etc) - no diet stuff, the naturopaths are really big on avoiding the artificial sweeteners - lots of fresh fruit and vegies (i'm not really into vegies so am getting a juicer for christmas and so am going to drink my vegie quota down each morning) - i'm also avoiding the nightshade group (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers) i know it sounds hard but honestly once you get into the swing of things it's not too bad at all. i also 'cheat' a little bit and can have 1 coffee a week, a little bit of cottage cheese (1 250g tub a week), organic chocolate (yum)! it really works for me, my symptoms have become so much worse when i've been off it also my RF rose from 33 to 65 in the 6 weeks i'd been off it. i have a weight problem too so have been bingeing badly for the past 6 weeks grrrrrrrrrrrr i am now on naprosyn til i see the rheumy so have to have breakfast with the tablet, i am not much of a breakfast eater so have been having smoothies with berries (great source of anti oxidants). i just figure if my body is going to be fighting this disease and the side effects from the drugs then i need to eat well to feed it. i think if i'm eating crap then my body is going to have to fight the preservatives etc also and that means there is 'less fight' going to the places that really need it if you know what i mean freedom foods are great, i can actually have wheat free corn chips! if i'm desperate i will have a small bag of cc's but not too often. if you want any more info just let me know and i'll type out exactly what the naturopath has given me i'm also on natural antiinflammatories, EFA's (essential fatty acids), BIO ACE (anti oxidants), multi vitamin and a dreadful tonic that must be doing some good cause it's bloody awful! take care and any further q's please don't hesitate to ask mel ps i'm not a saint by any means and have been absolutely terrible the past 6 weeks with my eating but my symptoms are worse and now i just HAVE to do it, if not for me, then for my son. > hi guys > well a firm diagnosis at last. i know that i was pretty sure i had > the ra but it still is a shock to have the dx confirmed. the doc has > put me on naprosyn until i can get to the rheumy, luckily they've fit > me in this friday. > i will be starting on sulphasalazine and directly after christmas i'm > giving up smoking (yes i know not good, but i just can't give it up > before then) and then i'll be back on my naturopathic diet and really > concentrating on my exercise > > sorry to be so down but i feel really sad this afternoon > chat soon > mel > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Sorry for the diagnosis Mel, but it's better to know so you can deal with it. Good luck with your smoking.
