You have probably been hypothyroid for many years. Epstein Barr Virus (and a lot of other viruses) can precipitate auto-immune thyroid disease.

A lot of hypothyroidism is missed now that most docs just go by the TSH and think that anywhere in range is fine.

I would not bother with a rheumy until you get your thyroid levels optimized.

Sara,I was going to go in for possible Fibromyalgia to the Rheumatologist with aches and pains all over since that many times comes along after or with the CFS or EBS which I was diagnosed with years ago. Nothing has gone away though or not much . I think I am not quite as tired as I was but this pain , etc. is really getting me down. I do not know what it feels like to feel "normal" anymore esp since I have been this way for about 20 years. First it was the tiredness and head and neck pain discomfort from what I am guessing is from nodes in the head and neck and then the pain all over came later on.I don't know though with these possible swollen nodes or at least that is what it feels like in my head and neck whether to start first with an endo or a

rheumatologist. The endo is probably more into the gland, node and thyroid situation. Was just trying to figure out who to go visit first, maybe the endo and see if that takes care of it all or not. Thanks again !Marilyn.> > > When I get back from my trip I will be busy checking out specialists > inc a Rheumatologist for my possible FM. >__________________________________________________

I have never done anything but an oral temp.Marilyn wrote:

Jan,It could very well be. When I couldn't gain weight ( have always been skinny)and wasn't feeling well the thyroid bloodwork always came back "normal". Of course I am sure they just did the TSH level and who knows what else cause I wasn't really paying that much attention to it and no one told me I should be doing so. My mother alwasy was cold natured to and most likely had some of my same problems. However, you know at that time no one ever went to the doc esp if you could not afford to go. We all figured that all the docs knew what they were looking for with thyroid diseases and ither related illness. Well, it lokks like not necessarily so.About a year ago I started gaining weight for the first time i my adult life, like at least 10 pounds in a year -

unusual. Then I thought that at might because I got off my premarin about that time. Of course, now I sweat in between my cold spell. What a major pain. For the past 4 days I have been taking my basal body temp and they have been 97 every time, and it was oral ,not axillary. Have to remember to do that. Thanks for your observations. I was thinking the same thing as you and hope that all this FM etc. is related to the thyroid and that it will when all my thyroid issues are resolved. I sure do hope so. I have heard it from others so I guess I hae a fair chance !!Bye for now.Marilyn> > Marilyn - from everything I've heard, they are increasingly > > connecting other symptoms, pain, FM to the thyroid dysfunction. > It's > > JMHO, but I think you should wait to get optimized by your thyroid > > med and other
