Based on what you are saying, synthroid may not be the best choice for

you. There are other T4 out there. Ask to change to one of the others.

Hey guys...just kind of looking for some advice or support..I had

probably had hashi's--im kinda hyper and hypo. I have felt worse

since treatment..my dr is using BRT..I suffer from debilitating panic,

nausea, exhaustion, and just an overall feeling of illness..I ache all

over...it's very depressing. He told me it would be a roller

coaster..but I have yet to feel the upside. I can only tolerate 10 mg

of Tapazole (which I have been on for a year and a half) if I take

more I get nauseous. And I vary between 50-75 Synthroid...usually

50...I have been doing this for about 6 weeks and I feel worse than

ever...I also have some strange mental symptoms..just depression...and

I can't seem to feel better on Xanax or Buspar. Does everyone have

this much trouble. I am sitting here after calling in sick to work

which I can't afford to do but am so exhausted I just couldnt get out

of bed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated---btw--I'm very

satisfied with my endo--he's from Europe and I like his approach--it's

just that I feel so awful!

Your symptoms sound more hypo than hyper. Is it possible that you no longer need the Tapazole? As was suggested by another poster, you may need a different brand of levothyroxine. Or you may need a larger dose of levothyroxine or you may need some T3, too. Do you have any hot nodules? In any case, it appears that you are under-replaced.

Both Graves and Hashi can have both hypo and hyper phases. lesismyname wrote:

Jan, I did not kow that Hashi's had hyper phases....can you explain or direct to details? I bet that is why they lowered my meds back in April (which sent me into a tailspin that ended in July with the TSH of 46 I have reported)

Thanks for the info!

Hashi comes with its own rollercoaster, but it tends more to the hypo. Most folks never experience the hyper phase of Hashi. Vaglica wrote:

I do remember right after I had my oldest son, losing the pregancy weight and then some in 3 weeks. I felt like I was in the HOV lane ALL the time. Then, life as I knew it came to a GRINDING halt. 3 months later, it was +40 pounds and all I could do to get through the basics of the day.Jan wrote:

Twas my "first phase". I could suddenly eat anything I wanted to, for several yrs. It's why I was running like a hamster on a wheel.

Re: I'm new here!

What is it about your endo that satisfies you? Has he tested your Free T3

and your Free T4 on a regular basis? Even more importantly, has he tested

your levels of cortisol or any of the other adrenal substances. Yours

sounds like a case of adrenal exhaustion to me. This means that your

adrenal glands may have been running on high output of cortisol for a long

long time, in order to either make up for thyroid problems or for long

ongoing stress. This sounds so familiar to me, with the panic attacks and

feeling generally ill. Yes, it is thyroid also, but has he tested for these

other things? That nausea is the key word for adrenal exhaustion.

I'm new here!
