Guest guest
SHIRLEY -- OH MY ... AM READING MORE THAN RESPONDING RIGHT NOW! I NEED TO OBSERVE FOR THE TIME BEING ALTHOUGH EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE I GET IN THERE. I DO HAVE A QUESTION REGARDING DIFFERENT MEDICATIONS WHICH I WILL ASK OF THE ENTIRE GROUP. I TOOK MOM TO THE MEMORY CLINIC AND THE DOCTOR HAS ASKED THAT A CARDIOLOGIST CHECK HER OUT SINCE HE WOULD LIKE TO PRESCRIBE MEDICATION WITH CHOLISISTINE INHIBITORS (MY SPELLING, NO DOUBT IS INCORRECT). SINCE SHE HAS A BAD HEART, DIABETES, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND HIGH CHOLESTEROL, THE CARDIOLOGIST HAS NOW ASKED FOR A SERIES OF TESTS TO BE DONE - AN ECHOGRAM (WHICH SOUNDS PRETTY HARMLESS) AND ANOTHER EXMINATION WHICH REQUIRES RADIOACTIVE INJECTIONS THROUGH HER VEINS (YIKES ... THIS SOUNDS REALLY HORRIBLE AND QUITE PAINFUL!) SO, TO GET TO THE QUESTION, WHAT ARE EVERYONE'S THOUGHTS ON THIS? I'M REALLY NOT SURE ABOUT THE DRUG THING (I'M AGAINST IT) AND FRANKLY, HOW MUCH TIME (IF ANY) WILL IT GIVE HER. OR, WILL IT GIVE HER A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE? HELP! THANKS. (but then again I have been getting very forgetful lately) Just wanted to say hi, good to see you again. Sorry things aren't looking too good for your mom. Now this is the same Barb that is also a caregiver for someone else isn't it? Take care, Shirley- ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca
Guest guest
Barbara My opinion is there has to be a time when we say 'enough is enough' testing. My dad went through so much testing, poking and prodding and I finally said 'enough'. After all, what would we gain if he were to continue to go through testing. Maybe this is what you are feeling inside. Best of luck. Sandie
Guest guest
Barbara, My mom (79) was briefly on medicine for high cholesterol and after being put on meds for LBD in November, her PCP (primary care physician) said that we would probably be better off working with diet as we had been previously. I personally feel that the fewer meds the better. Lately, though, I question this also. Mom is now down to nearly no meds, awaiting a change with visit with more specialized doctor, and she has been sleeping more than ever. Her breathing has become more labored and faster and suddenly, she seems more weak and feeble than she has ever been. I am scared. She seems to have progressed months in the last few days. The med decision is never an easy one, and from what I gather in these last few months in this group, what works for one can be deadly for another. It is like we are playing Russian Roulette with our LOs (loved ones). I have been thinking about you and your mom. So much wanted to respond earlier. Have a dozen or more posts to make...falling behind everywhere. Please take care of yourself...so glad you are putting out those concerns to all. Love & Prayers Betty
