Thanks for the clarification. I'm glad that oxycontin keeps you

out of the ER! When my pain peaks, as it did yesterday before I

could get my oxycontin prescription refilled, I become a nasty

person to live with. An hour after taking it, I'm a very nice

peson to be around!

There are many medications that could be substituted for oxycontin

in your friend's situation. Many of those have been mentioned in

recent posts, including morphine, methadone, fentanyl, and other

opiod derivatives. Your friend should ask his doctor about

alternative options. A pharmacist would also be able to give him

an overview of medications possible for treating chronic pain.
