Guest guest
Welcome back ! I am sorry to hear about your spider bite, did you actually see the spider bite you? I am only asking because I had a staph infection and initially thought that the boils were spider bites. Turns out I had an MRSI... I think it is possible to get one of these infections from a spider bite, but I am not sure. Please make sure that they culture the bite if it is oozing anything yucky. I was sick for four months with an MRSI (antibiotic resistant staph infection) because the urgent care doctor who initially drained my first boil never cultured it... my family doc finally cultured it after three months and 2 rounds of cipro, 1 round of levaquin, 4 Rocephin shots, and some other kind of shot. I hope you feel better!! > Hello everybody! > > My, my, I was trying to get caught up with all the posts but y'all > have been so prolific it's difficult! Guest guest
4 months? Oh , that's awful! No, I didn't see the darn spider that got me but I've had them before and that's what they looked like. Never had this much trouble/fever with them before though. I heard the doc ask for a test kit when they were getting ready to clean out the 2nd wound. Maybe I should call tomorrow and see what the results were and tell them I still have the fever? Or should I give my body a chance to fight it off I wonder? Thanks for the advice~! > Welcome back ! > > I am sorry to hear about your spider bite, did you actually see the > spider bite you? Guest guest
Yeah, if it were me I would want to know whether or not it is a staph infection.. Just to be sure, those are a real pain in the...um, butt? Of course, a sure sign would be if the infection starts to spread (I had boils all over me). I hope that your bite(s) get better soon. You should definitely call and let them know that you still feel bad. I wouldn't worry about being a pest with something like that. > > Welcome back ! > > > > I am sorry to hear about your spider bite, did you actually see > the > > spider bite you? Here we are in the Equality State! It was a long, rough trip but glad to have rented a house and get settled in, for the most part! I love it here, the sky is blue, the air is clean and fresh, and the people are friendly, just like in Texas. I swear I feel better with the molds, air pollution, humidity, and stress of that nasty job removed. However, I got two spider bites the night before we left and have had a fever ever since. One became infected and I was prescribed prednisone and Biaxin (is that the bad one, Jan?) I couldn't tolerate it because it made my pulse race and gave me bad palps. So, about a week later the other spider bite became infected and they had to drain that one and clean it all out. Then I was on 5 days of Omnicef and started feeling better again, only to have the fever come back after a couple of days off of antibiotics! One spider bite looks healthy, the other one is still dark purple and sore. Does anyone know how long it takes to recover from spider bites?Other than feeling hot, feverish, and face flushed red all the time, everything is great! I have a lot more energy than I did in Texas. I couldn't do anything to help load the truck, but was able to chip in for a few hours unloading here. One more quick thyroid related question -- does anyone know if changing climates, or moving to a higher elevation will change the amount of thyroid hormone required? Don't know if the Armour is contributing to feeling hot. It's supposed to be about 40 degrees tonight; a nice cool front blew through this afternoon. Maybe I'll sleep outside? Hope everyone is well and will post again soon! PS , it was terrific meeting you in Lubbock! You are such a sharp, smart lady! Guest guest
Biaxin has it's good points but skin infections isn't one of them. If it is a resistant staph the antibiotic of choice is Bactrim, and if there is a sulfa allergy then one of the Quinolones, Avelox and Tequin being the best for skin. If it's not a resistant staph then Keflex is a good option. However we now consider any skin infection to be resistant staph and treat accordingly. Guest guest
Which one is it that you don't recommend? My memory falters! > Biaxin is one of my preferred antibiotics. >
Guest guest
-- Is an insect bite abcess considered a staph infection? Thanks~ > Biaxin has it's good points but skin infections isn't one of them. Guest guest
The fluoroquinolones are fraught with danger. Levaquin, Cipro, Tequin and others, I would use only as a last resort. I had a severe adverse reaction to Levaquin. leoyellowrose wrote: Which one is it that you don't recommend? Guest guest
An insect bite that gets infected is most probably going to be with staph. Only a culture will say for sure, and that is the only way to determine if it's resistant staph. We did lots of cultures when we started seen this and after getting them all back as staph and most as resistant, we started saving everybody money and just treating them all as resistant staph. And no treatment failures yet. > > Biaxin has it's good points but skin infections isn't one of them. > If > > it is a resistant staph the antibiotic of choice is Bactrim, and if > > there is a sulfa allergy then one of the Quinolones, Avelox and > Tequin > > being the best for skin. Guest guest
Thank you. Then if I start feeling feverish again, I will call and ask if they cultured it and if so, ask if a resistant staph antibiotic might be in order. > > -- > > > > Is an insect bite abcess considered a staph infection?
