Guest guest
I've been taking nature thyroid for 8 months, and am now taking 1.75 grains. I've noticed that my symptoms tend to vary quite a bit from week to week and month to month - they don't just increase, they also decrease at times. Right now my skin is extremely dry (my knuckes are cracked and bleeding) and I am quite sensitive to cold. Two weeks ago I didn't have either of these symptoms. As I posted here recently, my last blood draw showed a huge decrease in my TSH (from 2.7 on 1.5 grains to less than .1 on 1.75 grains) and a high free T3 (5.2). Dr. Manzanero suggested that perhaps the nature thyroid med isn't standardized, and even though I haven't changed my dose in a bit, I may be getting a variable amount of thyroid. Any comments? If I switch, any suggestions about how to do it and what changes I might see? If you've taken nature thyroid, I'd love to hear your experience. I wanted to use it because I have food allergies and it is hypoallergenic. Thanks!
Guest guest
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that Armour thyroid has less fillers than NatureThroid. I saw an ingredient list on the NTH website, I will try to locate it so I can send it to you. I remember that armour seemed to have less allergenic fillers (but maybe I am mistaken??). I have heard that Biothroid is the best for allergies, but it isn't around anymore. I think your doc can rx a compounded thyroid med that is like biothroid. I know that Dr's Sessions and Mabray do this... > I've been taking nature thyroid for 8 months, and am now taking 1.75 > grains. Guest guest
, I couldn't handle Armour, so Dr R sent my prescription off to Women's International and I get their compounded thyroid meds. It is mixed into olive oil and there are NO fillers. I am feeling much better and I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't feel quite right on Armour. in Midland > I've been taking nature thyroid for 8 months, and am now taking 1.75 > grains. Guest guest
If you are concerned about allergies, you may want to get together with an allergist to determine exactly what is giving you a problem. A few folks are allergic to pork, in which case, you would need to switch to synthetics. Adrenal insufficiency is another angle to explore. Also if you have hashi, be aware that it comes with its own rollercoaster. The ups and downs may not be due to the meds. maryebe wrote: I've been taking nature thyroid for 8 months, and am now taking 1.75grains. Guest guest
, When you say you couldn't handle armour, what happened? I am just curious, because when I first started taking armour it gave me terrible headaches...(may have been from birth control or caffeine withdrawal or something....not sure). How much does the compounded stuff cost? > > I've been taking nature thyroid for 8 months, and am now taking 1.75 > > grains. Guest guest
Thanks for the ingred list! I know the foods that I react to. Since I can't have cane sugar, I think I might have a problem with armour. Fortunately I'm not allergic to pork. I'm gonna start taking some florinef and cortef - maybe that will help. It hadn't occurred to me that my thyroid's output could be varying so much. Ick. Doesn't seem like an easy problem to address. Guest guest
, I'll try to remember! I couldn't increase my doses very well, and when I tried to go from 2 to 2-1/2 grains, I would just crash and not be able to take any Armour for 2 weeks. My memory was extremely bad and I couldn't even remember to check my calendar. If I was thinking about something and got distracted, well that thought was gone forever. I put on a lot of weight and started having trouble swallowing. I've been on the compounded thyroid for about 2 months now and I feel almost human again. I can think and my memory is getting better every day. I'm still afraid to take the 2-1/2 grains every day, but I can take it 2-3 days in a row and not feel any ill effects, so I'll try for 4 days in a row next week. I've started walking again and I'm not a basket case the next day. That's all I can actually remember right now, but if I think of anything else, I'll post it. It costs me around $40 or so for 150 1/2 grain capsules. I don't use insurance to get it because it wouldn't change the amount for me. Let me know if you need any more info. > , > When you say you couldn't handle armour, what happened? > > I am just curious, because when I first started taking armour it > gave me terrible headaches...(may have been from birth control or > caffeine withdrawal or something....not sure). > > How much does the compounded stuff cost? > >
Guest guest
It isn't as hypoallergenic as they claim it is. It has more filler ingredients than Armour does. thinking of switching from nature thyroid to armour > I've been taking nature thyroid for 8 months, and am now taking 1.75 > grains. Guest guest
If I remember correctly, armour contains sugar. Since I'm allergic to cane sugar, I'd prefer to stay with nature thyroid if I can trust that it contains a standard dose. Nature thyroid doesn't contain anything that I react to. mary > It isn't as hypoallergenic as they claim it is.
