My mom didn't rage as much as give us the silent treatment. When she did that my dad referred to it as " she has a mad on. " and it was perfectly normal, I thought all families were like that. My ex did rage. He got an animal look in his eyes. He would get mad really quickly and start yelling at me about it and not let up for a long time. It was exhausting. I can remember many times we were up till the wee hours of the morning because he was raging at me for something, and I had to go to work the next morning on three hours of sleep and looking like hxll. The worst part was thinking it was over, finally lying down in exhaustion, then having him come back in, stand over me and start hollering again just as soon as I got to sleep. Hmmm, seems I have heard of that tactic being used in POW camps to break prisoners.... coincidence? Yeah, right....

Yeah, right.... I really feel that bp's do use brainwashing techniques. Mine happened so slowly that I didn't realize how many 'rules' there were until I was in way too deep. He talked constantly. I was never allowed to be alone to have my own thoughts. Sleep deprivation was involved. I am so lucky to have gotten out. My parents are similar in that they talk constantly trying to get their way but are not as severe as my ex. Most of us experienced the same thing in different ways. I remember being in a dead sleep or wanting to be, and in comes the ex with his demands - scratch my back or have sex. And if I didn't want to, I was the bad guy... Like nada, it was all about him and if I didn't comply, it was about me being wrong... I remember the first night he was gone... I went to sleep with a sigh of relief knowing I would no longer have my sleep disturbed... I've slept peacefully and when *I've* wanted to ever since. The last straw was when he pulled me out of bed in the middle of the night and told me he was going to kill me. He was REALLY mad.
