Re: Diagnosis?

I'll give it a try ... Don't see anyone else yet so here's my

diagnosis:

Diagnosis: Hyperthyroidism, possibly Graves disease (staring somewhat

protruding eyes, goiter, thin, obvious anxiety, fear, memory problems -

probably subjective)

Prognosis: After being treated for hyperthyroidism, she swings back

and forth between hyper and hypo like a yoyo. Eventually she'll

settle into hypothyroidism but will go untreated despite a low Free T4

and low Free T3 because her TSH is a " normal " 10. Her antibody

levels, if tested at all, will remain undiscussed. The more she

complains to her doctor about her failing energy, health, poor quality

of life, her extreme fatigue, feeling cold all the time, constipated,

inability to lose weight, now she for real doesn't remember if she's

been abducted or not, he'll give her a trial of .025 mg synthroid

which may lower her TSH to 5, and when she still doesn't feel better,

her endo will tell her it's not her thyroid and write a prescription

for antidepressants. Later on in life she'll receive birth control

pills for her heavy periods, statins for her high cholesterol, blood

pressure medications, all as a result of chronic undertreated

hypothyroidism.

I hope this won't be the case for this poor woman. Am I close?

Wow. A 600 person wedding. No wonder she got so

scared. Dumb thing to involve the police, though.

Courtenay.

That she was smart would be my

guess.

Had a lady come back for recheck yesterday. She initially came in

about 3 months ago for heavy periods. In the history/workup, she had

multiple hypo symptoms and labs were consistent. 3 months on Armour

she has lost 10 lbs, feels great, has warm hands and feet, and her

periods are back to 3-4 days, moderate flow, once a month. She now

realizes she probably was constipated but had been that way so long

she thought it was normal. She is one happy camper.

Gosh, I only hope I could have such fortunate luck as this lady!~ I've been on the armour 2 days. was sleepy today, but I am only taking 1/2 gr. two times a day instead of 1 gr two times a day. I am hoping when I am on the full dose things will be better.

That's fantastic, she was fortunate to choose a good doctor! Most

people aren't lucky enough to find the right doctor until they have

gone through many years of undertreatment, if ever. It's sad but

true. I can see it happenening with my father, mother, sister, and

one daughter. They are all on inadequate amounts of levothyroxine

and all lacking energy -- they could have better treatment, that's

what is so frustrating.

Hahaha, thanks for the laugh, Steph! I didn't think you meant the

lady who got abducted, or rather said she did! I hope you have good

luck with your treatment too!

Yeh, huge goiter isn't it? Hyperthyroidism, goiter, with symptoms of anxiety and possibly bipolar as another symptom of the hyper. She's even looking like TED may be starting. With some luck, she MAY get a doctor who MAY see this right away, but heck, seems like they never saw Yates great big huge goiter either, so, who knows? Back to this particular case----poor girl may have criminal charges filed against her because she panicked and lied to the police, probably out of embarrassment over being plastered all over the front pages of the world news.
