Guest guest
My mom had her room mate call me tonight to see if I was coming to visit. I told her I was. She said mom has something to tell me. I get there and mom is all sad looking. She says she has something to tell me that I won't like. She starts crying, and says she found out something today. She told me that she asked the PT to tell her the truth, will I ever walk again. He told her not without someone holding her up. She was devestated! I told her that the PT that came out to the house while she was here told her not to count on walking again as her main goal. She told her her main goal was to do as much as she can. She told her she may not ever be able to walk without assistance but mom didn't remember. I had talked to the PT and told her to not get mom's hopes up too much becasue the other therapists kept telling her she would get better. So she tried to prepare mom. Mom says she didn't remember any of it. Also when first diaganosed by Dr G she asked if she would ever get better. I could tell by the look on his face that she wouldn't. I looked at him and motioned for him to say something. At that time she was barely walking. He told her she most likely would be in a wheel chair the rest of her life. She cried. She forgot all of that immediately also. She did continue to walk though for another 7 months until she broke her hip. She wants me to call my dad in the morning and tell him. Now hopefully he remembers I already told him that. He is sometimes in denial too. Before I left tonight I told her it is still important to do her walking exercises anyway because she needs to keep as active as she can or else she would just get worse. She agreed. Her head is going downward again, it looks like it would be so easy to choke. Her face is still youthful in some ways. Her body is always in a twisted position, her big toes continue to curl upward. She is so uncomfortable all the time. She keeps slipping down in the bed and needs to be readjusted. She told me toinight that when an aide pulled her up in bed she asked her to adjust her pillows and she twisted them back and forth and kind of jerked my mom's neck. My mom yelled out in pain. She wants to know why they are so damn rough. What the hell is wrong with these people? Anyway, I'm just venting a bit. I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad but I know everyone wants to be as prepared as they can so I figure I would just share mom's experiences. Oh by the way Russ I wrote the word hello on a piece of paper in large letters and mom guessed it either said ha ha or ho ho. She wants to hurry up and get new glasses.
