Guest guest
I have a question. What are people taking for pain alone? Carol
Guest guest
The only med that I take strictly for pain control is methadone every 12 hours, with hydrocodone for breakthrough pain. The muscle relaxer (baclofen) and osteoporosis medication (relafen) as well as the anti-depressant (serzone) also contribute to pain control, even though they're not strictly pain medications. - At 03:36 PM 9/30/01 EDT, you wrote: >I have a question. Guest guest
I take Darvocette 100/650 and hydrocodone 5/550 2 of one or the other every 6 hours. I am allergic to codeine so that rules out alot of pain meds. I have been taking these 2 for about 6 months. I am about ready to tell my Rheumy that it is time to up the dose or change meds. Joy in Dallas Rs and all the associated syndromes and then some.
Guest guest
I take OxyContin 40mg, every 12 hours, and OxyIR 10mg, every 4-6 hours as needed for breakthrough pain. I also take Vioxx, Paxil, and Hytrin and Plendil for blood pressure. The Vioxx is more effective for me than other NSAIDs have been (even though it's not a true NSAID, it works similarly). Along with that I have an implanted Spinal Column Stimulator and use Lidoderm patches as needed on areas that are especially sore. Those help a good bit when I get sore and stiff in the hips. Guest guest
I took Vioxx for 5 days. After the 3rd day, my stomach would hurt for a couple of hours after taking it. On the 5th day, I started throwing up blood. I quit taking it :-) So the patches really do work? I was going to talk to the doctor about using them on one knee and on my neck - those seem to be the places that are still hurting the worse even with the regular meds..... - At 08:08 PM 9/30/01 -0400, you wrote: > >I take OxyContin 40mg, every 12 hours, and OxyIR 10mg, every 4-6 hours as >needed for breakthrough pain. Guest guest
Hi , The Lidoderm patches definitely help me. They contain Lidocaine, an anesthetic often used with injections. There are much stronger patches available, too, but those would be in place of the oral pain meds. The Lidoderm patches can worn for up to 12 hours and then you're supposed to leave it off for the next 12. One nice thing is that they can be cut to make them fit an area better or if you don't need a large area covered. Vioxx hasn't caused me any problems, but any of the NSAIDS carry the possibility of stomach problems. I've found that I'm allergic to Relafen and Daypro. They don't touch nerve pain, but do help with a lot of the other aches and pains associated with arthritis and FMS. I know, I have all three. I wish they did help nerve pain, but that's hoping for a lot from a topical anesthetic.

Guest guest
Patches: I am not really sure, but when I was recovering from a case of shingles, I had terrible pain across my shoulder blade. The Dr. tired the patches and I recall feeling they helped. Ten, he gave me Lidocaine Viscous (kind of a thick jell) and it worked a bit better. I was taking other things, so it is hard to be sure what helped the most. Kay M. Kay kayfrank3@...
