Guest guest
Today I had a panic attack. It was when I was drinking Starbucks iced tea. I think it is related to one of the thyroid meds I am on or both (Cytomel and Levoxyl) It was a little scary, but not too bad. I stopped drinking the tea and had some yogurt. Will this go away? I know I am on the lowest dosages of both. I'm thinking my body has been in slow gear since I've been hypothyroid and now it's having to get used to gearing up. Also, I noticed my appetite increasing slightly and a little bit of low blood sugar. The food discussion is very interesting to me because I am sure I am going to have to really go low carb here. But the increase in appetite is a little scary. I DO NOT WANT TO GAIN MORE WEIGHT!!!. Oh well, I guess it's going to be a trust walk- I've only been on the meds 5 days. thanks for listening steph

Guest guest
I found that after starting Armour with T3 in it, that my tolerance for caffiene decreased considerably. As a thyroid symptom, panic attacks can be associated with over- or under-medication. sle816@... wrote: Today I had a panic attack. It was when I was drinking Starbucks iced tea. Guest guest
Wow. I'm so sorry to hear that you had a mild panic attack. They're horrible. If you can manage it, you might stay away from caffeine until you are more stable. Since I have been having panic attacks for the last two years, I do not use caffeine at all. To be honest, it really might be the Cytomel revving up in your system-- unlike other thyroid meds, T3 medications are in your body within the first few days and may take some emotional/physical adjustment. You're doing really well-- I would just give yourself a little more leeway than usual. Best wishes-- Courtenay. Today I had a panic attack. It was when I was drinking Starbucks iced tea. Guest guest
The good news is that with the Cytomel, you will probably not need the caffiene or at least not much of it. I still have my three cups of coffee, but they are only about 25% regular and 75% decaf. There is decaf tea available.sle816@... wrote: I am a tea-freak (caffeine addict). Guest guest
I recently had to cut back on my tea since I upped my dosage. It caused rapid heartbeat sometimes. Now I don't automatically reach for tea. Sometimes warm water will do. Your idea of some yogurt is a good one. Sometimes, I just add a little milk to my tea to soften the effect. I also noticed an increase in appetite with my increased meds. It did go away for me. I drank water between meals to control it. sle816@... wrote: Today I had a panic attack. Guest guest
I don't know what caused the panic attack. I am predisposed to them and take medication for it. Have for years. So I haven't had them in years. My blood sugar has also been stable for years. It seems to me that years ago when I took Armour I had panic attacks at first, too. So, I'm not sure if it is the blood sugar being affected by the thyroid meds or what. I'll experiement around. Thanks for all the info steph
Guest guest
Is there caffeine in their tea? So many teas don't have caffeine in them. Plus, there can't be too much to begin with, right? I never had a problem with having my coffee in the morning with Armour, or with Cytomel. Except for a little shakiness from not being able to eat right away. When do you take your Cytomel? Maybe you could take it in the afternoon, or evening time instead? The few panic attacks that I have had, have nothing to do with drinking coffee. Guest guest
I should have explained that plenty of thyroid people still have their cup of coffee in the morning. But, should you find that you are having panic attacks more than once from the Cytomel, you might want to taper down a bit. Mate tea, which Shomon recommends, has less caffeine and some health benefits. With caffeine, each person has to figure out what their body can handle. Courtenay. The good news is that with the Cytomel, you will probably not need the caffiene or at least not much of it. I still have my three cups of coffee, but they are only about 25% regular and 75% decaf.
