Welcome Linduhlu,

This is a great group to be a part of, u will make many friends and find the support u need.

I have had FMS and CFS since 98, I also have high B/p, hypothyroidism, I am now on the highest dose of med they make, I also was told I'm in the beginning stages of degenerative arthritis of the spine, and now I am under a hematologist, they think there might be a problem with my blood and talking of doing a bone marrow test, this does not sound like any fun to me. I'm also a walking drugstore. But hey I'm great for the shape I'm in LOL.

I'm married to my soulmate of almost 29 yrs. We have 2 grown sons, 26 & 27 and a 3 yr old granddaughter. We live in Northwest ALA near the Tenn. and Miss. line.

Hope to talk to u again. Everyone when they have a bad day shares or vents, then u will get back the support to see u thru another rough day.

Welcome

A BIG Welcome to all of the new people and am new myself. I have found this group to be very supportive and informative too. I live in the state of Nebraska, where finding pain relief and a pain management doc's are far to none. Thank goodness that I have been able to educate my doctor and that I took the time to write to my state reps, state medical boards and that they totally back me up in regards to treating pain adequately with opioids. I have spent a lot of time writing and voicing my concerns about what good pain management involves and that some people are starting to listen. I was a nurse prior to becoming totally disabled by pain and diagnosed with many painful conditions and worked in end-of-life care which I found totally rewarding.

I apologize for not being able to write more lately and have been busy with my 3 children, a brother visiting from Hawaii and then the pain hit me really hard a few days this past week. Wow-pain can really control every aspect of ones life and find it really depressing at times.

Take care All and wishing you all low pain.

Big Hugs,

Cher

Hi ,

Welcome to the list! Opioids are narcotic pain medicines ... things like

Oxycontin, morphine, percocet. Some just have the narcotic component,

like Oxycontin, and others are mixed with Tylenol.

For me, these meds have been a life saver. I take Oxycontin, which is an

extended release, and OxyIR, an immediate release, for breakthrough pain.

My pain reached a point where other pain meds, even Tylenol w/codeine,

made almost no difference. I have degenerative disk disease, FMS,

osteoarthritis, spondylitis, peripheral neuropathy and sensorimotor

polyneuropathy.

The FMS can contribute to your " clumsiness " as well as the

problem you have with your back. If you have a lot of pain there, and

there is fusing and degeneration, there could be pressure on a nerve and

easily affect your legs. I have a lot of trouble with that.

I see that has given you a good description of the meaning of opioid so no need for me to go into that one but have to agree with you in regard to pain making us a completely different person and shouldn't have to be that way when there are adequate medications available for the treatment of pain. If Physicians would continue their medical education like the American Medical Association and other organizations have been advising, (Re: Pain management) there wouldn't be so much suffering in this world. I have found that *if* our physicians don't do this on their own, for whatever the reason, (CME) we must do it for them. There is a great amount of pain management educational resources (reputable information from good sources) available on the internet which we can print and take to our own Physicians and I have found that in my case, it does help.

Wishing you relief from your pain,

Cher aka crystal

you gave me a lot of good info here john, thanks. i'm also so sorry you suffer with so much.

i am currently taking tylenol with codeine but it's not helping much. i cannot take celebrex, etc., because of my stomach. my doctor just told me thursday if the codeine stops helping, to let him know. thanks for these names, i'll mention them to him, when i call him.
