Guest guest
I am looking for a book/method to teach writing. S is 8. This year we did First Language Lessons for grammar. And some narrative writing. But her writing is disorganized and I need a method to help her develop basic writing skills. I bought Language Strands 2 but am not happy with that. Also, if you know workbooks or websites for working on orgnization or thinking skills, please recommend. Guest guest
" Writing Without Tears " is the program that we used and it is available for printing and cursive. I have heard many " professionals " advise that cursive writing is actually easier to learn because it has less stop and starting as with printing. My son's cursive writing is much better than his printing. You can find the " Writing Without Tears " program on the web and the supplies are very inexpensive to order. Good Luck. Guest guest
You may want to post your question on this site: http://www.thehomeschoolmom.com/teacherslounge/ Good luck. PS. I have used copywork with great success for my son. I have been having him copy a page of sentences at a time from books like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Charlotte's Web, Pan and others to get the 'feel' for how to put a good sentence together. I was orginally doing it for the mechanical writing practice, but over time I've realized that the style of writing has really helpful. Also, during the school year, we were doing a narrative a week on one of the Five in a Row books. We'd read it the first four days and do a lesson, then on the fifth day do the narrative. I noticed that over the year my son went from really needing a lot of help (about 50%) forming sentences to being able to do the majority by himself.
