Sorry to hear your frustration but, unfortunately, this is usually

the norm. Granted, it has never cost me $1400 for an initial visit!

That's insane! I hope it covers the OV and lots of tests! I've done

30 minute phone consults before when I haven't had the $$ for a whole

hour. I've also put half of the OV on my credit card and paid the

rest cash. Call them back to see what you can arrange. My insurance

(Blue Cross PPO) pays for 1/3 of the OV, 90% of the lab tests and

covers mostly all of the RXs. So far, so good. I've read here on

different posts that the insurances will pay, for the most part, if

it doesn't state " autism " as the reason for treatment. I have not

tryed it myself, but I will soon. I hope this helps. God Bless.

--- That is great! I would be extremely happy if I could get that

deal with a DAN! doctor, but that is the problem, I need to find a

doctor that will accept BCBS (also PPO) in the northwest

Illinois/Indiana area...any ideas?

Unfortunately, not taking insurance is not

at all uncommon. $1400 does sound steep….. Even for the first visit. I

would keep shopping around. You may also be interested in the Yahoo group

Hi everyone, good afternoon. I am part of the GFCF

yahoo group as

well as this one and have put this message out there with no

response, so please read and help us!!!!

I just recieved word that the DAN! doctor we were going to take our

daughter to for her initial visit does not take insurance...I could

scream right now. It is Pfeiffer Treatment Center

here in

Warrenville, IL. We do not have the money to pay out of

pocket

considering the inital visit was going to be around $1400.00 and you

have to pay for this up front. Maybe this is old news to all of you

and you have experienced the same thing in your journey down this

road. But I am hoping that this is not the case. We do not have

loads of money, not to mention on this diet alone to stock our

shelves

cost $450.00 (my daughter is a very picky eater so I have to be a

sneaky but healthier Betty Crocker, haha. (Trying to crack a smile

with this disheartening news.))

Does anyone know of a DAN! doctor in the Chicagoland Northwest

Suburbs

of Illinois or Indiana that takes insurance?

We have been doing the GFCF diet for about 2 weeks with great

success

and I have watched this messageboard daily for tips and advice.

However I need someone to guide us through the necessary steps to

recovery for our daughter. I am a visual learner and cannot piece

together what to do without a DAN! on top of we need the tests to be

ran on her to even know what levels are high and such. Please help

us...if you know of a DAN! in my area that takes insurance let me

know!

So VERY FRUSTERATED RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

$1400 doesn't sound steep to me at all but rather very common.  I'm sure this cost includes all the labs and such.  That's about how much you pay for a GPL Outreach clinic (actually I think it's less than GPL Outreach).  It's actually sounds pretty cheap.  I have a friend that just saw Dr. West and left there with a $2400 bill (includes $750 Yasko genetics test).  These are some options:Because you have BCBS, GPL is a preferred provider so get as many of the labs as you can through GPL, no matter who you see.  Also, whatever you can't get through GPL, have done at your local lab if it's available through them.Dr. Lou Hulseman, Fall Creek Family Medicine9560 E 59th Street

You can use this program once a year.  ***NOTE*** This was posted in 2007.  If you are viewing this later, the name of the contact may not be the same but the program should still be called CAREFORCE so you should still be able to speak with someone. Southwest also has a program, I haven't looked up the details but you can find it out by calling them. http://www.miracleflights.org/They work with all these other airline programs and if they can'tget tickets through one of the programs, they buy them for you. Also, they will fly both parents along with the patient. And another option, contact GPL if you can get enough people together to get an Outreach clinic in your area.  You're out of pocket cost will be $200 and the rest will be covered by insurance since it's all labs.  You will also get a great DAN out of it but you will more than likely need to have phone consults for your monthly follow ups which will be out of pocket.  At that point, it just depends on what that particular DAN charges for phone consults/office visits and that's the price you will pay.Hope that helps.CherylUnfortunately, not taking insurance is not at all uncommon.  $1400 does sound steep….. Dr. Dan Rossignol (of Bradstreet's practice in FL) comes to Madison, WI once a month. His rates are $400 an hour. (I usually go for a half hour.) He will also answer emails and order tests. He has two sons with autism and is brilliant. Another dr. (Schultz) comes twice a month to oversee proceedures. Rossignol is very cooperative and I'm sure would work with you for coding stuff to comply with ins. but I can't speak to the insurance covering stuff.

Hi Jenn...

We went to Pfeiffer and we spent that money...we have not even

started their supps and protocol yet - wtill waiting fot the vits etc

in the mail. It takes a long time to get their results, so it is not

like you can get going asap anyway with Pfeiffer. Take a breath.

How old is your daughter...our Matt has 90% of his eye contact back

now, good joint attention and improving focus and attention span...he

is only on mb12nasal spray, the SCD diet minus casein, CLO nordic

naturals, and some zinc. Read Stan's protocol by searching under his

name on the TACA website. Read it carefully, look at the naturals at

the end, and see if you can implement some beinning interventions on

your own....the BIGGEST change for us has not come with Pfeiffer

since we have not DONE Pfeiffer yet...it is the SCD, minus casein.

That is a fantastic place to start...it truly does put glasses on the

brain and sort the gut so that Pfeiffer and all the other stuff can

be effective. We had to actually stop Pfeiffer;s primer vit...Matt

wasn't tolerating it too well, and I hated the sugar syrup I had to

put it in to give it. DO THE DIET. FOCUS ON THAT..we saw HUGE

changes within the last two months, and we are not even cooking

baking and making much yet...Matt is picky too...it is all

applesauce, chicken pancakes with some squash mixed in etc...save a

TON of money, count this stumbling block as a blessing for now -

count it ALL joy...and get busy getting on a diet that will help

restore your child's gut, and that won;t feed the yeast. Get the two

or three tests that those on this site say are the most useful to

guide treatment, post the results and ask for advice here...but half

of what you try and put into her from Pfeiffer, if she is just GFCF

and eating lots of carbs, starches, and sugar may not get absorbed

anyway....start with the diet, give it a few months save your pennies

and your sanity...and do Pfeiffer if that still turns out in a few

months to be where you need to go...talk to the folks at Brainchild

Nutritionals...I found them very helpful, and Stan's paper to be VERY

helpful. It is going to be okay...Pfeiffer sounds like a ton of

money, but it can be saved up for....do the diet and some gut

cleaning in the meantime....LOL Di

There is a DAN doctor in Indianapolis, IN that takes insurance, her

name is Lou Hulseman, you can find her info at:

http://www.ecommunity.com/physicians/mdprofile.aspx?phyID=221481

or www.fallcreekmed.com She has a daughter with aspergers and

that's why she turned to DAN protocols. She is big on the SCD diet

and she requires you to attend a seminar before she will schedule

and appointment. The seminars are every 6 weeks. I know of a

couple of Mom's who send their kiddos to her and they like her very

much. I personally don't know her because we have a different DAN

that we met through Autism One, a conference held in the Chicago

area. By the way, that conference is usually held in May and we

found it to be very helpful.

Hope this helps,
