Guest guest
, I'm so sorry about your new diagnosis. But then, if you have it, it's better to know that you have it. Wow! That's a lot of prednisone. No wonder you are vibrating from head to toe. I guess your last day to take it will be Christmas Eve, if I'm calculating correctly. I hope it helps your symptoms. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us updated about how you're doing with that massive dose of prednisone. I would advise you to not eat any carbs during those 10 days, because that much prednisone will surely send your blood sugar skyrocketing. Did they mention anything about that? Guest guest
Sue: I know all about the weight gain. I gained about 40 dollars when they first put me on Prednisone (tapered dose), for my RA in mid-January of this year. I think I should just get my jaws wired shut now, and get the Prednisone through injection. I will try and avoid the carbs....but they aren't just calling my name, they are SCREAMING for me in the evening and the middle of the night. Time to stock up on low-cal foods like salsa, raw veggies, etc.... Thanks for the reply!
Guest guest
, Gift certificates are a wonderful Christmas present. Easy for us and appreciated by the receiver. I can't imagine being on the dose of prednisone that you're on. It's not surprising that you're sick. Ulceration of your stomach is a concern at this dose. Here' some articles I've found: Prednisone use in Multiple Sclerosis: http://www.nationalmssociety.org/Meds-Prednisone.asp Steriods for multiple sclerosis and optic neuritis: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled clinical trials http://tinyurl.com/7tcaj Optic Neuritis Treatment and Predictions for Multiple Sclerosis http://www.loftusmd.com/Articles/MS/opticneuritis.html The FDA/manufacturer's guidelines for the prescription of prednisone: Multiple Sclerosis In the treatment of acute exacerbations of multiple sclerosis daily doses of 200 mg of prednisolone for a week followed by 80 mg every other day for 1 month have been shown to be effective. (Dosage range is the same for prednisone and prednisolone.) http://www.druginfonet.com/deltason.htm#DOSAGE%20AND%20ADMINISTRATION a On Dec 15, 2005, at 9:39 PM, ltlmisscrankypants wrote: > Hi everyone. > > I hope you are all well and ready for the busy holiday season > that's just > around the corner. Guest guest
, Has your doctor mentioned steroid injections in your eye? I know it sounds awful, but I have 2 family members that have had it done and both say it was painless and it was effective. My mother couldn't take steroids by mouth and nothing was effective for her. She was loosing her vision. They gave her a steroid injection in her eye and it worked. My BIL was on high dose prednisone for ocular inflammation and joint pain and besides the fact that it didn't work, he gained an enormous amount of weight and it caused bone damage in his hip. He tried the steroid injection in his eye and it worked. MS is a different disease than what either of my family member have, so this may not be an option for you but I just wanted to tell you in case it was mentioned that both say it sounded gross but was painless. Unfortunately I have to go out and finish my shopping. I hope my feet can handle the lines. When I get back I'm going to do some more research. Saving your vision is a priority but with your gastric bypass you have to be careful. a
Guest guest
, Be careful on high doses of prednisone with your pouch. You Can get side effects from the prednisone. I have problems from oral pills and from injections. I have to take Nexium or something like that when on prednisone and any NSAID. The nerves and shakines is normal. I had that on low doses of prednisone. Beware though cause prednisone make me pyschotic!!! Is it possible to crush the tablets and hide them in apple sauce or protein pudding? That might make it easier to take with limited stomach space. I think The amount of pills is a lot even for someone with a normal stomach. Toni In a message dated 12/16/2005 6:07:37 A.M. I hope you are all well and ready for the busy holiday season that's just around the corner. I am done my shopping, or as close to it as I am going to get! There will be some gift certificates this year, but that way people can purchase what they want. It's been a rough year for me, waking up with RA on January 11th with no real prior symptoms, just totally immobile and ended up in the ER. Teeth started crumbling, dry mouth/eyes and was then also diagnosed with Sjogren's in June. And as if that wasn't enough, I have been in and out of hospital for almost 2 months now with what has now been diagnosed as Multiple Sclerosis. I am dealing with it all well, just really focusing on making Christmas very special for my boys. I started med therapy for the MS yesterday, and it's a 10 day course of Prednisone. I am shocked at the amount, and the pharmacist called the doc to make sure, but I take 1250mg of Prednisone one day, skip a day, take 1250mg again, skip another day and so on for a 10 day period. Well, today was day 1 with 25 of the 50 mg tablets to swallow 30 minutes after Gravol and after I'd eaten a substantial breakfast. I've had a Gastric Bypass, so this wasn't easy to do. It took 2 hours of finding and making room for the fluid, food and pills. I don't know what to say other than I just don't feel right. I am edgy, can't sit still, and I am just vibrating from head to toe. I feel like my head is going to explode from the massive headache I have. They had hoped the Prednisone with bring back my vision which I have lost and restore feeling to the left side of my body. The Neurologist said it would help with the RA symptoms as well. Anyone else been on this high of a dose, and feel so out of sorts??? Happy Holidays everyone,
