Most people with children on the spectrum

who do SCD also remove the dairy entirely as well. The diet was not spefically

designed for children with Autism but for removing all yeast feeders for those with

severe candida. However we know that for our kids the casein peptides cause an

opium like reaction as well as the new study by Dr. Herbert that says that propionic acid, a short chain fatty

acid, found in gluten and casein, causes autism symptoms in rats. So it would

be best to remove the yeast creating foods as well as the casein. Good luck,

PS I would start the nystatin and then

remove one food group at a time, like dairy 1st and then go SCD on

top of it within a couple of weeks. It’s like they are detoxing from

drugs when you remove the foods so doing it slowly is a good idea.

Subject: Starting

the SCD

Could anyone give me some info about starting the SCD?

I have 5 yr

old twins with autism. I've read the book and looked at the web

sites, BTVC site and pecanbread, however it is unclear, because I've

read that the SCD can be very beneficial, however, no one mentions

whether they keep out the casien or do they use the legal dairy

products mentioned in the diet. Also we are getting ready to start

Nystatin therapy, any advise? Am I asking for trouble to start the

SCD and mystatin therapy at the same time?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

some kids tolerate goats milk SCD yogurt, and some even tolerate cow's

yogurt but those are quite rare.

www.pecanbread.com is a great resource for ASD kids on the diet.

Yes my son is not one of those that tolerate it. I don't want to add the same info I just wanted to add that the SCD diet includes the gluten free and yes like above does allow some dairy's. We say we are on the GFCF and SCD. We have been on the GF for 3 years, the GFCG for 2 years and now on the SCD for 2 months and see huge progress. I would like it is said above start the Nystantin right away and start eliminating 1 thing at a time. If casien is easier then do that if gluten is easier then start with that, then move up the ladder it isn't about all or nothing, just working and climbing up hill as you learn more we do more for our children. __________________________________________________

my son was scd and casien free for 9 mos. we added in the goat yogurt

and cheese at that point and he tolerated it just fine, in fact he

started putting on weight again with the addition of the goat yogurt. I

tried to add the dairy products in at several points during the diet

and he just couldn't tolerate, after 9 mos, it was no problem any more.

SCD is a special diet. We have been on it for six months and have recovered one of our twins and the other is making huge gains. The diet MUST be introduced properly in order to work. It is a gut healing diet that seems to work on kids even without gut issues. OCD and anxiety we two of the behaviours that diminished on this diet within two weeks. Check out pecanbread.com to find the diet and the way to implement it. It is the single best thing we have done for our ASD twins. It really helps all other interventions work better for your child. MOST IMPORTANT YOU MUST DO THE INTRO DIET FIRST TO GET THE DESIRED RESULTS and then follow the diet strictly.

Diet where you starve the yeast by getting carbs only from monosaccharides - essentially fruits and veggies, no potatoes, rice or grains. Some introduce goat's yogurt to introduce beneficial flora. Some on spectrum can tolerate, others cannot. Diet for most consists of animal protein, eggs, all kinds of veggies (avacado, squash, carrots, broccoli), fruits (peeled and cooked in the beginning) and baked goods made from nut flours and butters. Can be difficult for those w/lots of allergies and or phenol sensitivities, although some say once they are SCD for awhile it has helped their allergies/intolerances. This is not the case for all. You can find more info on pecanbread.com.
