Guest guest
We were at a banquet this weekend and I was taking a pain pill and an acquaintance of ours asked me what I was taking. I told her it was a pain pill and told her about the RA and that I was seeing a rheumy on the 5th. She said, and I quote: " Oh My Gawd...my friend and her brother have that disease, of course he DIED from it, but she is alive and says that it is just excrutiatingly painful. She says she can barely move some days! " OK, is it just me or is this the most insensitive response???? I couldn't believe she would tell me all that. Especially since I haven't been to the Rheumy yet, and she didn't know how much I have researched. If I hadn't been researching it, I would have never known how bad it can be, and I would have heard it for the first time from her. I just smiled and said, " Yes I know, I have heard it can be very painful (DUH I JUST TOOK A PAIN PILL YOU MORON!) I told my husband about it in the car on the way home and he couldn't believe she said it either! I don't know what is worse, that response, or my best friends response when I told her. She laughed and said, " Join the club " and I said, " RA is different than normal arthritus " she just changed the subject and hasn't mentioned it again--that was 3 weeks ago and we talk everyday! We are 33 and I highly doubt she even has regular arthritus and she certainly doesn't have RA. Anyway, I'm done complaining...for now that is!
