Guest guest
Hi, I am new here. I have a history of JRA. I am in my 40s. I now also have OA in my MTP (big toe). Has anyone had surgery on this joint? If so, what type? My dr recommended a fusion. Has anyone had a replacement on this joint? In any case, what was your experience and how has your outcome been? Please reply. THanks!
Guest guest
Yes, I have had surgery on my feet including my big toe. The first time I had a debridement on my one big toe which lasted several years. Eventually, I had all my toes realigned on both feet. This was done under a local block at my request. Of the many surgeries I have had this was very successful, no pain and just overnight in the hospital. I was walking in special boots for a week or so and then just walked normally. For me, the best of all I could wear a normal (well almost) shoe. This op took place 3 years ago and I still wear nice shoes. Hope this helps you. Hugs June [ ] Toe Surgery PLEASE REPLY! Guest guest
June- Glad you experienced success! Is the alignment the same as a fusion? My doc says I need a fusion and it will take 6 weeks to heal and that I won't be able to bend it or wear heels ever again. UGH! Thanks for the response. Guest guest
No, my toes were not fused, they were all crooked, one on top of the other. She cut across my foot just at the base of my toes, put toes back in place where they were supposed to be, plus removed a bunion from one foot. In all, it took about 6 weeks to heal but I was still able to walk during the healing time. Fusion was never mentioned. There must be a reason why he feels fusing is necessary, you should ask him. My left ankle is fused but it doesn't prevent me wearing high heels, it is all the other damage to my feet. Hugs June [ ] Toe Surgery PLEASE REPLY! > > > Hi, I am new here. I have a history of JRA.
