Guest guest
Currently using Palm OS as my calendar and will go to significant lengths to avoid microsoft. I'd also prefer to avoid going to the web to look at and change calendar, would prefer that the technology auto-synched the various users. Guest guest
How about something like this? It does use the internet for syncing but I don't think you need to access the web in order to view or enter data.http://www.companionlink.com/products/companionlinkforgoogle.htmlCompanionLink for Google Calendar is a two-way synchronization solution for people that want to access and modify their Google Calendar appointments, meetings, and notes from their mobile devices and desktop calendar programs.Synchronize Google Calendar with all the latest Pocket PC, Windows Mobile, Palm, and BlackBerry devices in addition to Outlook, Lotus Notes, Palm Desktop, and GroupWise applications. Guest guest
Another solution might be GooSync (http://www.goosync.com/). There's a free version and a subscription version. Still free is free. AirSet looks like a more full-featured product but they charge a monthly fee (http://www.airset.com). No financial ties. Guest guest
Gordon, I use Appointmentquest, and have a Verizon pocket PC phone, which I use to access AQ when I am not near a computer. My receptionist uses AQ in the office, some patients self book their appointments, and it eliminates double booking. The PC phone helps me also to access Relayhealth, and I have used it during long distance drives to send e-scripts and respond to messages--takes time, but gets the job done! --Padma > >> At 11:15 AM 4/19/2007, you wrote: > >> > >>> I use my Palm and synch between the handheld, my laptop, and Judy's > >>> desktop. Guest guest
The problem of having a real time portable calendar was one I was interested in solving since we started our practice, especially because and I job share and alternate days, so it is nice to know what's going on. Just yesterday I ran in to a patient at the post office and was able to schedule an annual for her husband on my smartphone. For what it's worth, (especially if you are starting from scratch) this is how we have done it. 1. We use microsoft outlook for our patient demographics and our office schedule. 2. We use microsoft exchange on our server to provide web based access to the outlook data. 3. Using a motorola Q smartphone and verizon service, we use microsoft activesync/exchange to provide wireless access for push (real-time send/receive) email, calendar, and tasks. (this could be done with contacts as well if you had a single group but because we use public folders to group our different contacts this has to be done by connecting the smartphone to the computer with a USB cord). 4. One additional perk with this setup is that we can use the motorola Q to also serve as a modem for my laptop ($10 a month) so that we can log on to our office computers anywhere. We plan to really test this on a roadtrip to MI in June. This functionallity was one of the main reasons we decided to use outlook instead of the scheduling function within amazing charts, and it has really gone very smoothly. Guest guest
Gordon, I read this reply after I replied to a previous post describing how I use microsoft products to solve the issue of synchronizing calendars. I have to ask if your avoidance of microsoft is due to frustrations with crashing PC's running windows in the past that have left you gun-shy or if you have moral objections to Bill Gates et al. Either way, this response did raise a philosophical issue for upstarting IMP's. We have all become more computer savy than before we started down this road. As we started making decisions about which program's (such as EHR, management sofware, electronic document formats) to use in our office, we were constrained by cost, awareness of a potentially predatory EHR marketplace, and a desire to choose something that wasn't going to become obsolete in 5 or even 50 years. In microsoft's favor, they aren't going anywhere. Neither is Intuit, the maker of turbotax, quicken and quickbooks. Adobe (read PDF) has become the most obvious standard for electronic documents. Amazing Charts was an easy decision because it is cheap, does what we want, is constantly improving, and if it ever does (God forbid) go belly up, it is based on microsoft access database format which makes it easy to cheaply bridge the data to any other EHR you should choose in the future.
