Guest guest
Yes, we with adults need to unite. The people with autism get " old " before they leave school because at a certain point the schools look at your individual as being close to not being their responsibility. You all have to realize that teachers really do not know the adult issues. And, no one really does until they are enveloped with such matters. I will try and share this world with all of you from time to time so you can talk to your school people about preparation. Meanwhile, most of us with adults will continue to battle what faces us. What we really need is an Adult Autism Medicaid Waiver. I am learning that adults do much better if they can have individual attention like mine. It can be done if the state will allow money following the person. I am in contact with DADS now and trying to give them a vision. They often are much like the teachers in their knowledge of adults--I am seeing this now. I was able to do what I have started to do with housing by starting the PPP program and having that and HCS, as well, long enough to have money for this current living arrangement. It would not have happened, otherwise. What makes it hard for all of you to do this is that start up funds are needed...you know for the kitchen ware, the furniture, and the items needed to furnish an apartment. Unless, you are well to do then it is hard to do this start up yourself. But if you are good at asking for items from the community then you might just get it done. It all takes planning and work. It IS possible even now with HCS. I am fortunate that Seth does have HCS but when you start to be an innovator then the agencies just aren't able to help much because they are into money making and their business not the " business " you have in mind, the business of preparing for care of your individual when you are no longer able to be there. That is where I am coming from. Just sharing a little with you all. Martha ---------- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
