Hi all,

I haven't been posting for a while, but have been reading your posts daily.

My 8 year old with Asperger's has been on Valtrex (500 twice a day) for 39 days.

I

documented black flecks on the 6th day, acne looking breakouts on the 8th day

and a

healing regression for the following 3 weeks.

Mainly, he started again chewing and mouthing everything he can get his hands

on. But,

most of all loss of focus, irritability, for us indeed was 2 steps backwards. He

is to take his

State tests for third grade and it's a very stressful year in Florida. Some

positives were

improved muscle tone and in the past days better pragmatics (drops in

expressions and

idioms in every conversation)

With lots of probiotics and Lauricidin twice a day, I have a feeling I can't

keep him like that

anymore, because of the high educational demand in school.

MB12 today gave him a terrible headache, so I had to give him Motrin.

What bothers me the most is his increased OCD. He tells me he can't " resist "

doing things.

He touches everything while walking, even the pavement. In the car he told me to

hold his

hands tight, as he couldn't stop himself from opening the door while driving.

It's definitely

dangerous and detrimental to his new little friendships he had build in school.

I feel on the

40th day I want to give up.

The DAN doctor didn't want to prescribe any stronger antifungals. DID another

EDTA

chelation and he was pale and stiming for a week after that.

He wants me to go for another DMSA next week, but doesn't answer the calls.

At this point I just want to leave the kid alone and take him off.

I was curious about Oxytocin, however, and anything to help the OCD, whrere can

I get it?

He spends now his whole day in school doing " Rainman " calculation and obssessing

about

Jim Carrey, but he needs to study.

Any opinion would help,

Connie

Hi Connie,

I was in a similar place last year at this time. My son was on a

Valtrex/Diflucan trial for 90 days and they were PAINFUL. It was

during the school year and his behaviors and lack of attention,

stims and overall sad mood was not good. He was mouthing everything

too. After the 90 days with zero improvements, we stopped. We gave

him a break from November through January from everything except the

diet. He's doing so much better now. I still think viruses are an

issue, but don't think this was the right approach for him. Nothing

works for every child. My DAN! says you should see more good than

bad (except in the event of yeast die off and even that should only

last a short while). For us, school was too important to keep

going. Sounds like it could be the same for you. If you really

want to try again, maybe you can wait until next summer? It was a

hard decision, but then again, we didn't see any gains at all.

Best wishes,

>

You really *must* have an Rx antifungal on board.  As you can see, probiotics and Lauricidin really isn't cutting it.  If you are seeing gains, I would be leary of dropping it and work more on making sure he gets an Rx antifungal.CherylHi all,I haven't been posting for a while, but have been reading your posts daily. Hi Connie,

My son is on Valtrex now also just upped to 500 and did experience

regression and gains, he needs an antifungal, we used Amhotericin B,

but now he may be resistant, we need to change.

Also, in your post, why did your DAN give EDTA, does your son have

high lead? My DAN gave us it too, but I did not use it because it

is not recommended in people who are mercury toxic according to

people on the autism-mercury board. You can check it out if you'd

like.

Just my two cents,

Do you think that the irritability, loss of focus and OCD behavior

are yeast related? or bacteria related?

We haven't started Valtrex yet, but are planning to at Thanksgiving

break. We have been doing some OLE and 1500mg of Vit C and we've

seen increases in all of those previously mentioned behaviors. Yeast

didn't show up as a big issue for him in his testing, so I'm trying

to figure out what behaviors would indicate yeast or bacteria and how

to treat it.

Thanks for the info.

Here's the thing about antivirals, you must be consistent.  You either choose to use it or you don't because you can cause mutations in the virus by not being consistent.  This doesn't mean you can't stop it for a few months and revisit it later but when you choose to start, you need to be consistent until you choose to quit.  You can certainly figure out which is the proper dosage but you really shouldn't skip a day here or there or skip a dose here or there.  One of the things you may want to consider is instead of twice a day break it up into 3x a day and see if that helps.  Or try lowering to 750 mg instead of 1000 mg.  Cheryl> >> > Hi all,> > I haven't been posting for a while, but have been reading your posts> daily.> > My 8 year old with Asperger's has been on Valtrex (500 twice a day)> for 39 days.
