I tried to get my daughter into this program a few years ago when we were so

dismally disappointed by Ft. Bend's PPCD program. (There are some circumstances

when you can transfer between districts). We were told by KISD that this

program is for children that have failed to make progress in a regular PPCD

class, and that Katy ISD students get first priority in terms of admittance to

the program.

So at least they are being consistent and honest. I have read some KISD

bashing in the past few days, but I have to say that in our experience, it is a

superior district to Ft. Bend and especially Lamar, in many ways.

Just my 2 cents.

I've heard it all now. I didn't think they could have an autism program in the

public schools or rather label it as such. If they do have one how in the world

could they deny your son access to it?! What do they propose if not this

program?

yes,my friend, you have heard it all now!! this is why i couldn't let it go

when we started hearing tyler didn't need Katy's autism program - rather they

want to spread them out into PPCD classes and from what i can gather, the

parents who fuss and don't go away eventually get access to the autism program.

I don't know the legalities of calling it an " autism " program but that is what

our district has done! I know a few of the families that have been allowed in so

far, some are pleased and some are not. I think it depends on what previous

therapy/schools your child has had access to. You don't know bad therapy until

you have had someone good work with your child! At this point we are being

denied, according to the district, because of the whole least restrictive

environment thing, as well as a few other lame excuses.

Bottom line, not enough funding (supposedly) therefoe not enough space in the

program, therefore really weird way to determine which kids get in, especially

the young ones like ours just coming up through ECI.
