when I broke away from the previous physician I had to look for space quickly.

I am sharing office space with an internist, it is working out well. I pay him rent, he does his thing and I do mine

call gwen hanson. she has the kind of setup of which i am very envious-- reasonable rent, with utilities and cleaning included, walking distance from home, great neighborhood. i don't know how she found it, but maybe she'll have some ideas. I am so sorry. What a drag. Just when you think you don't

have time for any more busy work. I'm just getting started with the

home office thing, and it is working well. One neighbor is worried

about parking, but the few patients who come here park in my driveway and

I don't think it will be any problems. Hopefully she won't

complain to our neighborhood association and/or city. (She has a

bit of a reputation for complaining, and, I think for something like

this, neighbor complaints are taken very seriously.) I don't know

if that would work in your situation or not. Hopefully something

good will fall into your lap as you let others in the community know

about your search for space (tell everyone).

Good luck.

Wow, that's harsh.

I suspect they are not so concerned about doc loyalty due your

inability to switch allegiance.

Any chance a local newspaper reporter might be surprised by the harsh

treatment of a local MD luminary?

'Course you have to judge the impact in a small community of going public.

Sorry this has happened to you. Maybe you

can sub-lease in an established office. Your patients will follow you, they

would be crazy not to.

1 this hospital adminsitration has shown indeed time and again how

little they know about how to keep physicians around multipel examples

The problem is a tough one. Hospital is nonfor profit .They own the

b " jeopardizes " their non profit status.

it is a lovely sunny perfect space I have s pent the last 18 hrs

Do you admit to the hospital? Are you on

staff there? Is this a way your hospital treats its admitting physicians (that

generate it revenue)? What about notoriety? How many times has your hospital

been featured in Medical Economics? Can you talk to the CEO or is that who made the decision? Would you like us to take up

the call and write him/her letters describing how you are helping to change the

face of primary care or would you rather go quietly into a better situation? Let

us know.

I'd go with Sharon 's approach then - think of going public

with " fabulous doc loses space due to unfortunate rules. While

nobody is at fault, isn't it a shame we can't help... "

They could just not charge you rent and then they would still be not-for-profit. I wonder if they have more motives than what they are telling you as they knew how much money they would make before they offered you the space. I take it you are the only doctor "leasing" office space from them?

RE Relocation

1) Change address to your home -- you can do this for your medical license, and change all others, even Medicare, and not see pts there.

2) Then, if you change your office address, then nothing else will change.

3) Address change to pts -- this isn't a big deal, BUT your telephone number is. Keep your telephone number. Mailer to pts shouldn't be a big deal.

Good luck!!

From the Drain Doctor, Sorry to hear about your bombshell. Of course, an unhappy landlord is like an unhappy bride. You can't do any reasonable thing with either of them. What to do? Try this: pretend you were sick of them, and imagine where you would go. Imagine the perfect spot and look there. Or Draw a map of the area and map out all the other practitioners: then pick an easy access area between them that is zoned right and doesn't have fifty other MDs, which is easy for you to get to from your home, and which is near a rich subdivision. Find a place there. Then call the owners of the place, and offer to rent it. That was what I did when I found my vet practice in Madison, Wisconsin. It wasn't for rent, but they rented it to me anyway because they liked my philosophy. Or ask any friends about sharing their overhead by renting one of their rooms. Or, as has been suggested on this listserve, find out from the zoning people if your home can be a home office. You can often get permission from the zoning people to do something not zoned for, if the neighbors don't come to the hearing and complain about the plan. After the shock, you may find this to be a chance for you to perfect your practice style, rather than a bad luck moment. Good luck; we are all behind you Joanne Holland DVM/MD wrote: welljust had a bombshell dropped on methe hospital wants my space back I have to move when my lease isup endof may.It was very hard fidning a space and won't be much easier.internet access hosp lab access build out costs debt?? changing insuranceaddresses telling patietns.just shoot me.

Our hospital is a county hospital and rents to two different clinics of docs as well as rentint space to incoming specialists. If you like your space, I'd consider speaking with a lawyer about this. I think the city's attorney way out there if (s)he ismaking the hospital pay taxes because they RENT to you. Also, if it's a wash for the hospital, that is still a gain for them as you use their lab etc. While the hospital might not acknowledge your importance to them (am there, doing that), you can shout it in their face, and, yes, may need to take it in front of the hospital board which should be a public meeting! Good luck!

Well, not what you were wanting to hear.

Let us know how we can help.

This may be an opportunity in disguise for you…
