Guest guest
A private speech therapist who evaluated my son when he was 3 referred me to Dr. on. He used to be the director of the Meyer Center for Developmental Pediatrics at Texas Children's Hospital before he started his own private practice. When I called the office to find out if I could make an appointment I was told they needed to send me a big packet of forms first (just like the Meyer Center does), fill out the medical history etc. and return it. I never completed the packet because up front his office stated that they didn't take my insurance and their rates were really high. I went with the Meyer Center because they accepted my insurance. Then last January, I went to a parent conference at my son's school and Dr. on was one of the guest speakers. His topic was about Diagnostics and Medicines. He's a soft tone/monotone sounding man and he's short in stature, which is a good thing when it comes to getting down to the level of small children. But I can't say I was terribly impressed, the one good thing I got out of his spiel was that our children need to be reassessed as they grow to find out their changing learning styles and strengths. His practice is called Developmental Pediatric Associates, Inc., located at 4500 Bissonnet Street, Houston 77401. I don't have the phone number. The flyer I still have reads M.D. FAAP (Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics--and we know what that means) after his name.
Guest guest
I have heard of Dr. on (not sure of the first name) who is a developmental pediatrician. He has a very long waiting list last time I checked which was about 6 years ago. I think his specialty is for diagnosis and referral to therapy. I am not sure whether he does any treatment himself. Guest guest
His name is Dr. Danny on. He does evaluations and is supposed to be very good. Last I heard his wait list was ridiculously long....but possibly worth it! Jacquelyn Tomlinson in Sugarland is great! KK Dr. Danny on in Houston Has anyone seen Danny on in Houston? I believe he is an MD or DO. An acquaintance with a delayed child said that she had heard he has a developmental pediatric practice, possibly called Developmental Pediatric Associates. She thinks he is located in Bellaire. I was wondering if anyone has information about Dr. on. I can't find anything, including a phone number. There is another Danny on, who is a chiropractor, but that is a different guy. Their office said they get several calls for the Danny on MD or DO that I am looking for, but that is all they know. I would very much appreciate any help. Thanks! Jukoski
Guest guest
I am sorry, I don't have CURRENT info, but he is probably the same one who did my daughter's original diagnosis 5 years ago. If so, he goes by an initial, not Danny, and that may be why you couldn't find his listing. At the time he saw my daughter, this was his contact information. Developmental Pediatric Associates, LLP W. on, M.D., F.A.A.P. 4500 Bissonnet, Suite 350 Bellaire, TX 77401 He did impressive work for us. We made sure he knew we were specifically looking for an educational diagnosis to show to our ISD diagnostician. In return, he wrote a report so incredibly thorough and well put together that the school district personnel switched from an attitude of: " Autism, yeah well WE'LL be the judge of that! " to: " Wow, what an incredibly thorough, well documented, and detailed diagnostic report! We are required to perform our own evaluations, but we're sure they will be virtually identical to this impressive diagnosis, " before they had even finished reading it! Guest guest
PS Having read some of the other posts, I wanted to add that at the time we saw him, 5 years ago, he did take my insurance. In fact it was my insurance company that referred me to him. Has he switched to taking none at all, or is he just taking some and not others? The questionnaire / history packet took us a week to fill out. It was incredibly thick and detailed, but worth all the trouble! If you see him, make copies of everything you fill out for your own files before you send them in. Having done his paperwork once, you can always use it as a reference when anyone else wants background on your child's history! There's so much of it you will never remember once you send it in. We took " next available " and got in within a month or 6 weeks I think. We had to be willing to show up when called. Sandi
Guest guest
You are right...I think that is one of the reasons I went to Meyer Center.....he does not take insurance at all...or at least he did not a few years ago. Dr. Sherrye Vinson Sellers at Meyer center is excellent. They take almost everyone's insurance....so it only cost me a copay! Guest guest
Dr. on diagnosed my daughter with autism in May. I didn't call him at first because of the insurance situation, but then got the run around at Meyer and the other one at Hermann Hospital, the name of which now escapes me. I couldn't even get phone calls returned at Hermann and Meyer didn't even want to talk to me to make an appointment for about 4 months. I went to Dr. on's website, filled out the papers, mailed them in and got a call to schedule an appointment within 2 weeks (possibly less). Granted the appointment was a couple of months out, but it was much better than not getting any appointment. The time it saved us in getting my daughter the help she needed has made all the difference in the world and was well worth the $600 (approximate) in my opinion. He only spent about 40 minutes with my daughter, but I feel his diagnosis was accurate and the written report more than adequate. The referrals he provided were also very helpful. Most important was that he got us on the road to helping my daughter much faster than some of the other organizations in Houston would have been able to do. His website is http://www.dpamed.com/ Oh, my insurance did end up covering part of the expense (there was a deductible). I just had to take care of the paperwork. Check with your insurance ahead of time. _____ From: Texas-Autism-Advocacy [mailto:Texas-Autism-Advocacy ] On Behalf Of D22@... Guest guest
Dr on recently diagnosed my son. Although he was not on our insurance he did a thorough job and wrote a full assessment and gave diagnostic codes, not just for the Autism Spectrum but also for speech and OT issues that we can use with our interventions. My son responded to him very well throughout the assessment and I was overall very impressed. It took 6-8 weeks from the contact with the office until our assessment. I second the suggestion to make and keep copies of all the forms you fill out for future reference. Dr. on came very highly recommended from a friend who is a speech pathologist with many years of experience in Houston.
