Riboflavin for Migraines/ Was Intro

I had migraines since I was a kid. At one time, they tried a calcium channel

blocker but I developed a bad side effect. Since my diagnosis with Sjogren's, I

went from having one drug allergy to eventually now having six. Anyway, they

had been manageable for a number of years with pain medication but then they

started getting worse and going on for a few days and coming more frequently.

My internist referred me to a neurologist nad he told me that a study found that

high doses of ribaflavin worked as a migraine preventative and lessener in

around 65% of patients. He didn't want me to start on the standard medications

since I was already on a few and have asthma and a strong heart history in my

family. Anyway, I get the medicine compounded at a pharmacy and put in a fairly

large capsule. The only side effect is that it turns the urine very bright

yellow. It has worked very well for me. Now I only get an occasional migraine

and they are less painful and for a much shorter time.

My only concern will be how to get this once I am back in the US and how much

will it cost me. Here medicines are much cheaper and so are doctor visits. The

waits at an emergency room are fantastic. When we have a fracture here, we are

in and out of the emergency room in under two hours. There is no waiting for

hours.

That is another topic. They don't spend on niceities in medicine here in

Belgium (the waiting rooms at all the hospitals have plastic chairs and are all

functional and not attractive). However, the medical costs are much, much lower

and the waits for anything are much shorter.
