Guest guest
There actually IS a formula out there but I don't use it. It's useful as a reference point though. Let me see if I can find it and I'll post it for you. ) Carol << I hope someone can help me figure this out! I have been keeping a food journal and keeping track of my calorie intake. The problem is, I have no idea how many calories I should be eating in a day. If I eat too many, I won't lose weight. If I eat too few, my body goes into starvation mode (so I'm told) and I won't lose weight. Help!! I do TB Basics 6 days per week and I weigh 140 pounds. Anybody have any ideas how many calories I should be taking in?? I never knew getting in shape and losing weight was so complicated! LOL! Thanks for your help! >>
Guest guest
<< I'm a firm believer in that it isn't just how much you eat, but what you eat that counts. So you may want to look at what you are eating and make some modifications >> Colleen, I am eating healthy foods for the most part. I also believe that quality counts as much (maybe more) than quantity. I tried a low carb diet several months ago and didn't like it. I do limit refined sugar and I try not to eat too much bread or pasta, but I don't want to give up those things altogether. Thanks for your input. I will calculate 10-12% of my body weight and see how that works out. Thanks again.
Guest guest
<< Here are two sites that have calorie calculators but these are NOT the ones I was looking for. I'll find it eventually! LOL! >> Thank you Carol. Please forward any other info you come across. I really appreciate it! By the way, welcome to the group!! I hope you'll love it here as much as I do :-)
Guest guest
, I'm a firm believer in that it isn't just how much you eat, but what you eat that counts. So you may want to look at what you are eating and make some modifications. I'm on a heavy duty low-carb exercise email list (even though techinially I Zone not Low Carb) and these people are extremely educated about diet and exercise. And before I ruffle any feathers <G> I'm not saying whether or not I advocate their low carb diet...so that being said, recently someone asked the same question. They said you should be eating 10-12% x your body weight. Play around with your diet and take notes, and see what works best. The thing about " eating healthy foods " is that it might mean different things to many people: low calorie, low fat, low carb, low sugar, low sodium, food combining, high fiber, organic only, etc. Focus on what it means for your body and you should do fine. I probably eat different than most people on this list, (you guys would probably call me fanatical about my eating habits <G>)but my particular goals are to be at a very low body fat (I'm 5'6 " and about a size 2 or 3). The Zone isn't a low carb diet. It is a diet that is 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat...not for everybody, but works for me. I've approximated my BMI from 15-17% depending on the web site I go to, and I hadn't worked in two years prior to last October. (I think I use BMI cuz I didn't it with tape measure and computer vs. calipers, but correct me if I'm wrong). Keeping a food journal should be a good guide for you. Make some moderate changes 1 at a time and see how your body reacts. But don't be afraid to 'step out of the box' and try something new, experiment with different levels of carbs, protein, fat and see how you feel. Someone commented the other day that because was so thin, she could probably eat anything she wanted. But I think of that as backwards. I think that it is because of what she doesn't eat, that she looks so great, of course combined with Taebo/exercise. People tell me all the time, " Oh you can have just one. You're already thin. " But the reason I'm thin is that I don't " have just one " ...diet is almost as important as exercise in maintaining a lower body fat. Just my two cents on it Colleen _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
