Guest guest
Hi ! How old are you? I was so blessed to be one of the lucky ones who had minimal side effects my first few months. Now at 6 month mark I can appreciate people that have them. Hopefully you will work in the opposite direction of me and have your side effects get better Hey it beats the other choice of slowing dying of liver disease. Are you a 1a? How long do you have to treat? Body ache eh....sheesh have not had that one yet and hope I never do!!!!! I look back and wonder where 6 months went too I cannot believe it been this long. Sleeping through most of it these days is making it easier. Guest guest
Don't give up hon. The first shot is the worse. Mainly because they make you take it in the doctor's office, and it is hard to go home and sleep through the side effects. It does get better tho. Guest guest
Hey ,Don't give up so easy. The first 4 to 8 weeks are the worst. From then on, you'll have good days and bad days but the bad days get better. Just let the medicine do its job. There is always someone here to help when you have one of those sleepless nights and it seems like your mind is out of focus. It's not you, it's the meds and it does get better.Steve Bridgers

Guest guest
Amber, you are so right,, resting altho it sounds so cliche is so important.. I found my hep when I was your age too, did tx and have been clear now 6 years.. In looking back on the time I did tx (54 weeks), it seems so long ago and of course my memory isnt as good as it was, but it was doable,, very doable,, so I think that we all must remember your words, "Its only for a season".. then its over hopefully! thanks for such a great compassionate answer for ! hugs, jax Subject: Re: Re: side effectsTo: "Hepatitis _C_Central" <Hepatitis_C_Central >Date: Monday, February 16, 2009, 12:47 PM ,I am also 1a, 47yo, and just completed wk 23. Guest guest
, ask your doc for pain meds, there is NO REASON whatsoever for you to endure severe pain during tx.. My doc gave me norco, ask him for that, it has lower doses of tylenol in it and it works really good.. it will make the difference between having tolerable side effects and not.. I hope you're on an antidepressant too.. hugs, jax Subject: Re: Re: side effectsTo: Hepatitis_C_Central Date: Monday, February 16, 2009, 4:44 AM hello guys, i have severe body aches, i'm geno type 1a. i have to treat for 48 weeks. i am 27 years old. i have mild fibrosis. sarah From: <gremlin291989@ yahoo.com>To: Hepatitis_C_ Central@yahoogro ups.comSent: Sunday, February 15, 2009 4:23:10 PMSubject: [Hepatitis_C_ Central] Re: side effects Hi !How old are you? Guest guest
, hang in there. I will be doing my 12th shot tomorrow, and I haven't had any of the side effects you are having. I'm sorry you're having them. I never did the treatment before because I was afraid of those side effects, but now I know that I would rather have had those side effects than go through what I went through when I got so very sick that I needed a transplant, which I had last year. You don't want to get so sick that you need a transplant, or worse yet, die. Let me tell you, it is not fun...the pain, the fluid retention (ascites), the varices in the esophogas bleeding, the constant nausea and throwing up, and many trips to the ER. I never want to be that sick ever again. The treatment won't be forever. You can do it! Guest guest
Hi , You can't give up. I started out the same way you did when I started treatment. It made me so sick and the headache and leg aches, I missed at least a day of work a week. I am starting week 25 of my treatment tonight and for me I have adjusted to the treatment. The side affects are barely noticeable. I get the leg and hip aches when I get my procrit shots but that seems to be getting better to deal with also. I notice if I sit or stand in one spot to long the aches creep up so I try to take a walk around to stretch my legs periodicaly. I am over halfway there and counting. Something else someone told me to try, I used to get my shots in my legs and they told me to stay away from my legs and go for the stomach, when I did that it really did help. Guest guest
Hi everyone, hang in there. It is hard but worth it (so they say)...........Does anyone have alot of fluid? I had a cat scan last week and they said my liver was worse then the one they did 7 months ago. My doctor said that is normal for it to get worse before it gets better. Also I have at least 30lbs of fluid in my pelvic, legs and abdomen and I truly look at least 9 months pregnant. It is hard to do anything. I cant get out of bed, I cant get out of the car without a struggle. It hurts to sleep on any side. Who can share ideas with me. My doctor said he does not want to take it out with a needle because it can be dangerous and cause infection. Guest guest
LInda, if you have ascites, I think they have to remove it by draining it.. I suppose they could give you diuretics but if your kidneys are working right, that could be a problem too. I dont understand why they are not drawing that off,, you might have to take an antibiotic to prevent infection,, but if you cannot breathe and you feel pregnant, they've got to do something.. that doesnt make sense... and quite honestly, I've never heard anyone say that you get worse before you get better,, Janet,,,, LIz... you ever heard that??? jax From: Neal <sarahneal65@ yahoo.com>Subject: Re: [Hepatitis_C_ Central] Re: side effectsTo: Hepatitis_C_ Central@yahoogro ups.comDate: Monday, February 16, 2009, 1:13 PM hello guys, thank you for your kind words and encouregement. i have my next shot on wed at 10am. i know it is doable, but some days it does not feel like it. i got my tylenol 3 filled today. that seems to help alot. thank you again sarah From: "amberkesterson@ rocketmail. com" <amberkesterson@ rocketmail. com>To: Hepatitis _C_Central <Hepatitis_C_ Central@yahoogro ups.com>Sent: Monday, February 16, 2009 2:47:02 PMSubject: Re: [Hepatitis_C_ Central] Re: side effects ,I am also 1a, 47yo, and just completed wk 23. Guest guest
you're doing great Tracey,, keep going hon,, I know and I remember the leg and lower back aches after procrit,, I think the neupogen shot caused worse bone aches than the Inf shot,, but it was doable,, you can make it hon,, you can! hugs, jax Subject: Re: side effectsTo: Hepatitis_C_Central Date: Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 4:16 AM Hi , You can't give up. Guest guest
Hi , I had a lot of fluid in my abdomen (ascites), as well as in my ankles, feet, and legs (edema) before my transplant. I know exactly how you feel. I couldn't roll over in bed without a huge effort. I looked 9 months pregnant too. They should do a paracentesis and drain the fluid out of your abdomen. They got 7 litres of fluid out of me the first time it was done. There is always a chance of a bacterial infection when they do that, but they can put you on antibiotics to prevent that from happening. I was on Ciprofloxacin to prevent infection. If you have that much fluid, they should do the procedure so you will be more comfortable. There's no reason for you to have to be so uncomfortable. I was drained about 4 times before my transplant. Are you on diuretics to try to get the fluid out of your feet, ankles, and legs? I was on furosemide and spironolactone, but they didn't work on me anymore after a while. I've never heard of your liver getting worse before it gets better. If you have cirrhosis, the cirrhotic (scarred) parts of your liver will not get any better. Guest guest
No this is a medical mystery to me. I have never heard of anyone getting worse on treatment. Only getting better as the virus is killed. But as I have said before we are all individuals and this treatment effects us all different. Hope they are able to help you LInda. I have the same aches, too. I have found warm baths and sleeping/resting with a heating pad helps me. Through the month.s I have found my water consumption makes a tremendous difference in how I feel. Try to rest (sorry-cliche' but comes from a sincere heart). Being tired can also make me feel like crap.I'm sorry you are not feeling well. I was so blessed to be one of the lucky ones who had minimal side effects my first few months. Now at 6 month mark I can appreciate people that have them. Hopefully you will work in the opposite direction of me and have your side effects get better :)Hey it beats the other choice of slowing dying of liver disease. Are you a 1a? How long do you have to treat? Body ache eh....sheesh have not had that one yet and hope I never do!!!!! I look back and wonder where 6 months went too I cannot believe it been this long.
