Guest guest
Hello, I'm Ginny from Michigan. I'm a SAHM with five children. 48 years old, married 22 years. We moved to Michigan 5 years ago and I met a friend who had been drinking raw milk for most of her life. She began sharing with me the benefits of raw milk and gave me a book to read: The Milk of Human Kindness is Never Pasturized. Even though the laws in Michigan were strict, she had been getting raw milk from a dairy in the area for many years, one where she had a family connection. Through her association with this family, I was able to start getting milk from the same dairy, and have been doing so for 5 years now. As a family we immediately began to see improvements in our health. My children are hardly ever sick and my husband, who is lactose intolerant, can drink raw milk with no problems. Later I read Sally Fallon's Nourishing Traditions, and have gone on to make many changes in our eating habits, incorporating as many raw foods as possible (including raw protein) as well as whole foods and organic products. I've tried my hand at making butter and cheese, but with five children (4 are teenagers) we usually don't have much milk left for anything other than drinking. Currently we are incorporating kefir into our diets and enjoy drinking it very much. My family will hardly touch any store-bought milk now. If we ever run out before I have a chance to get to the farm, they would rather go without, and wait for the new supply! I'd really like to see laws change in Michigan and everywhere in the US. I see a trend that might indicate shifting attitudes and more openness toward the benefits of raw dairy, but we still have a long, long way to go. I try to keep up with Michigan laws through Sally Fallon's Real Milk website. I know there are several cow share programs up and running in the state but it is illegal to sell raw milk. I'm not sure how the dairy where we get our milk deals with the laws concerning sales. My friend has asked and they tell her that everything is fine and they are not breaking any laws. I have decided not to ask questions because I'm very thankful to have a source for raw milk! I'm looking forward to meeting others who enjoy the benefits of raw dairy! Sincerely, Ginny
