Subject: Dr. Berkson's Recommended Diet INTEGRATIVE MEDICAL CENTER OF NEW MEXICO NUTRITIONAL PROGRAM SIX FRESH GREEN VEGETABLES a day.... 1/2 cup serving Asparagus kohlrabi artichoke summer squash leeks snowpeas green beans wax beans mushrooms bean sprouts beets broccoli okra brussel sprouts cabbage cauliflower onions eggplant greens kale parsnips tomatoes turnips water chestnuts peapods cucumber celery radishes peppers hot pepper,chili romaine lettuce sweet potatoes rutabaga carrots NO ICEBURG LETTUCE and beets sparingly due to the iron WHOLE GRAINS ..1/2 cup = serving Oatmeal brown or white rice buckwheat corn tortillas rye bread grits corn whole grains NO BOXED CEREALS PROTEINS ..serving = palm of your hand chicken or turkey roasted baked or grilled fish beans (not canned) non processed cheese lamb seafood eggs tofu wild game OILS AND FATS olive oil fish oil butter black currant oil coconut oil flaxseed oil FRUITS... 1/2 cup = serving apples natural applesauce apricots bananas berries,straw,blue,rasp,black cherries grapes kiwi nectarines oranges papaya mango plum pear peach pineapple tangerine pomegranite FLUIDS 6-8 glasses of water a day coffee (no more than 2 cups) tea herb tea selter water with a little juice no more than 1-2 glasses of no sugar added fruit juice a day AVOID milk by the glass No low fat or skim milk white flour and sugar tobacco salty foods soft drinks especially diet margarine and most cooking oils processed foods deep fried foods grapefruit peanuts in any form alcohol tylenol/acetaminophen MUST DO: exercise bowel movement everyday stress reduction program 15 min. sunshine a day HAVE FUN.......... positive attitude.............
