Janet. Deleting your cookies wont get rid of 'this' cookie. It attaches to a PROGRAM FILE, not your cookie stash. And you will spend a long time trying to find it in your programs.

Normal cleanout and restart does not work.

well once you've clicked on it,, it imbeds a cookie on your computer,, and Im not sure how to get rid of it, but its there now,, grrrr,,, I hate these things,,

hi everybody

There is a way to get rid of the Grouply cookie if youve already clicked on it. But its a bummer.

You need your 'start up CD' that came with your computer, and you need to run it on 'COMPLETE CLEANOUT', usually #3 on the choice list, which will wipe everything.

This means that you need to back-up all your files on a CD, because you will lose everything as it removes everything, and reinserts the basic programs.

Even NORTON cant get rid of it, as its attached to a PROGRAM.

Im sorry but this is the only way I know.

One good point about it is that it cleans all the trash out of your computer that has built up, that viris protection has missed, and you have a new computer again.

Kinda like having hep c. You can fight it or possibly pass it on to others by ignoring it.

Ive already used my 'start up CD' on my computer, just in case, even tho I havent clicked on this e-mail. You never know.

They way I understand it, this being a FIRST GENERATION virus, as soon as you click on it FROM YOUR INBOX, it sets the cookie in your programs, so even if you click on the link you suggest, your already infected.

The only way to protect yourself is to DELETE it, without opening it. Clicking on SPAM sets your e-mail address as valid, and the Grouply will try again.

What I mean by FIRST GENERATION is that as soon as you click on Grouply from

your INBOX, it sets the cookie in your program files.

So it doesnt matter if you go further or not, your already infected.

Yahoo has a excellent anti-spy program that you can download with the tool bar.

I use it and it has helped alot.

Run your anti-spy software, and then do a complete virus scan.

I have had trojans so bad, that I had to just do a complete re-boot.

, my solution was for moderators of Yahoo groups so that they can

prevent the invitations from going to a group at all and does not

address anyone getting sent an email invite from Grouply to your inbox.

IOW, if I stop the invites from being posted to my groups it doesn't

make it anyone's mailbox at all. That is what the link will do.

last year when I lost ALL my classwork and all my personal pics and everything on my laptop, we bought 'carbonite' and its well worth the 50.00 per year for unlimited backup,, IM glad I have it now, just wished I had it before,, there is only one way to retrieve all my stuff now and that is to send it to southern calif to a specialist who has a 'clean room' and pay them 1000.00 to retireve my info,, I can't afford that so its lost,, at least for now,, but we have the hardrive saved so maybe someday I can get it all back,, so if you can afford carbonite, I'd highly suggest it because, if you were to have to reboot your entire computer, everything that you might want would be saved and stored off line,,
