Guest guest
Hi everyone, I am in New Mexico for my alternative treatment. On Monday I saw Dr Berkson and he ordered 14 blood tests. I will have the results tomorrow and see him again. He gives Alpha lipoic acid intravenously each day and a vitamin B shot. He is very interested in diet and believes that is a large part of recovery from the EFFECTS of Hep C. He only is hoping for a slowing of the virus and healing of the liver. NOTHING yet has been found that CURES the virus--interferon gives a 30% to 80% chance of people reaching a sustained viral response. I'll write more about the people going to him later today. Most of his patients are very sick and were given only a few months to a few years to live. I am not sick, but I do have Hep C. For new people---I was 74 in August. I've had hep c for over 43 years, maybe even over 50 years. I have done no other treatment and this is my first time for this type of treatment. I do not have cirrhosis. STOPPED ALCOHOL USE in 1966. Off to get my IV. I'll write later today. Cheers, SuziQ

Guest guest
Hi Janet and everyone, Well, I feel almost embarressed--My Alt is normal--ASt slightly elevated , Iron just below normal, Both cholestrols normal-- clotting time normal--kidneys fine--sugar slightly elevated--BUT I have rheumatoid arthritis. I will take one more IV tomorrow and head home. He treats the rheumatoid arthritis with Low dose naltroxone and I start that today. He said to continue to take my ALA, Selenium and milk thistle and B complex as insurance for liver health. And diet and exercise for my blood sugar. He basically said my health is excellent for my age and for having Hep C for 43+ years. So, I guess what I really want to say is that it is possible to have Hep C and live a normal life and not be sooo scared. On some it does progress quickly and on others it just sort of sits there. Be sure to watch your health, your diet and DO NOT USE ALCOHOL!!! I also don't use prescription drugs unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. Check your liver health regularly. All my doctors since I was diagnosed have not been really concerned about it. I did have a biopsy 9 years ago. BE AWARE that you have Hep C and go to your MD regularly, but don't panic if your biopsy is in the low range. And don't rush to treatment. There are so many new treatments in the works that may be less debilitating and you may want to see how they work out. Liz posts about new treatments regularly. So enough. Have to feed my kitty who joined me on the trip. She has to have her insulin so I am afraid to leave her behind. Guest guest
Never feel embarrassed about feeling out of sorts but having the tests come back showing...well...as normal as possible. It's when you ignore the symptoms/feelings that get you in trouble...better safe than sorry, ya know? Yes, I agree, you DO give hope to all of us who are sitting here with the HepC for 20+ years just waiting for a " cure " ....
