Guest guest
Melisa, though I don't know you personally, I feel for you. I know how maddening Insurance Companies can be. I have three cervical fusions, which they put me through over two years of pain meds and finally I got a doctor, after getting a lawyer, that would do the surgery. Made a world of difference. Then I was in a car wreck, not my fault, and I now have my whole lumbar area fused with two rods, eight bars and sixteen screws. I know what messed up disks and vertabraes can do. Good luck on becoming a paralegal. You sound like one hell of a good one in the making. I don't know if you have had a tummy tuck or not, but I have been told that after losing a lot of weight that the extra skin hanging pulls hard on our spines and especially if you have a bad disk or anything, can really become painful. My plans are to have a TT and a breast reduction when I have lost another 40-50 pds. I have lost just a little over 100 so far. I went from having to use electric carts to shop, to now being able to walk and do it. I do have severe neuropathy in my hands and feet. Due to having been a diabetic. DS doesn't help that, but it makes it easier for me to accept, what with feeling better otherwise. I wish you the best. Pearl
Guest guest
Melisa You and Mel returning on the same day!!!! Wowie!!!! I'm really sorry to hear your back hasn't improved any. Hopefully surgery (gulp) will create the relief and mobility that you need. The pool party is August 7th (the sunday before the support meeting). Your cooking services will not be needed as Marta has decided to do an Oven Deep-pit. She even had her oven fixed for the occasion. So if your able, come and just enjoy the day. In 1996 I had a compression wedge fracture. Think of it like this, the bone in my back got pinched where in stead of being round with a little height all around, the bone in one side was pinched to form a wedge shape.kind of like a donut if it got smushed 1/2 way. I also show multiple spurs encroaching on the thecal (spinal)sac at several levels. Then the car wreck pushed one of the spurs over into the spine and caused severe pain for about 2 months before I could get a doc to fix things there. Since then they call me " failed Back syndrome, which I disagree with, as the neck where the surgery was is usually the least of my problems. The thoraic is my hot spot. There are some problems in the lumbar, but they are lesser problems. They tell me that surgery is almost never done in the thoraic because it is so dangerous, so i have to deal. I tell people all the time to watch your back because back pain really sucks and you only have one. I'm post-op almost three and half years, and I had my Panneculectomy, Hernia Repair and Mons lift a year ago February 18th. Dr K. removed almost 8 pounds of skin and a baby alien. He didn't tell me how be the baby alien was, just that it was a " baby " . My heart goes out to you with all the work you've had done on your back. Gosh! My problems began, believe it or not when I was 17. I hurt my back working at a grocery store and went on Workman's Comp for a month. After that I was in a car accident. After that, I was 6 months pregnant with my first daughter, and got rear-ended. After that, I fell through a mobile home floor when I was 8.5 months pregnant with my second Daughter (and biggest at almost 9 pounds, 22.5 inches long!) After that baby was born, I immediately got pregnant with my third (they're 11 months apart, I'm not kidding). So, my back has gone through heck! I also have mild Thoracic Scoliosis as well, which is a hereditary thing my birth-mother shared with me, as she's on permanent disability because of her severe Scoliosis. (Yes, I'm adopted.) When they did the CT Scan of my back they started at around the T10 area and noted in the CT Report that I had a bulging disc with lost height at the T11-T12 Disc. Then the L4-L5 disc is gone and the L5-S1 is gone. If they would go from the T-Spine to the C-Spine, I'm sure they'd find I have lost a disc in my C-Spine if not two. When I move my head side to side, I can feel and *hear* the bones grinding. I'm also experiencing numbness in my right arm and hand. However my PCP won't even order an X-Ray of my C-Spine until they can get someone to fix my ability to walk again! LOL I'm a mess ROFL. Thanks for your email! I'm actually an " old timer " now I guess you could say, at 3-1/2 years post-op! Wow. that seems so odd to say.. ROFL Melisa Rechenmacher Scrapbooking Supplies & Instruction! Guest guest
THEY WHAT???!!!! The (*^ & ^^%(* & #$$#%^* insurance people are trying to say that your back pain is due to Bipolar? Do they have their heads up their butts? Gosh, . I am sorry for the pain you have been going through. I injured my back at the L5/S1 in 1994. I didn't go to the doctor for about 3 months, as the pain slowly got worse. I didn't have insurance and figured that it would get better with some rest (which I wasn't giving it) and massages (I had a couple). One morning there was a " pop " as I sat down on the toilet and I was unable to walk after that. The disc that had been ruptured herniated into the spinal column and left me partially paralyzed with a 50/50 chance of recovery after surgery. That happened because of MY stupidity in not getting help. To think that the healthcare " professionals " that run the insurance companies are disregarding all the documentation of your problems and blames it on Bipolar really REALLY makes me mad. I am so glad that you are not only fighting it, but are determined to become a professional advocate for people who find themselves in the same position that you are now in. My hat goes off to you! Go get 'em girl! Keep us posted as to what transpires. in WA
Guest guest
> I tell people all the time to > watch your back because back pain really sucks and you only have > one. > Mel I second the notion, Mel! I have arthritis and a history of back injuries, so I am very careful of my back these days! Disk degeneration is in our family, too. I know that back surgeries are about a 50/50 proposition. My sister got hit by a car sixteen years ago and it changed her life so much, it is as though she died. Harsh thing to say, but true from my viewpoint. I lost my only sister that day, I just didn't know it at the time. Marta
Guest guest
> Ok, first things first, I scanned the calendar section to see a > date for the pool party that is usually posted there in the month > of August... Missy, thanks for reminding me! I went to the calendar right away and put it in there. Like Jo says, it is on Sunday August 7 which happens to be my first 49th birthday, may I have many more! Also, no more cooking. I will make pit beef. The part is here and he is supposed to put it in my oven sometime between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Yes, I found a repair service that gives a two hour window! Boy, am I happy with them! They aren't in the phone book, but their number can be had for a price, lol. Marta wondering if you have a recipe for kolaches, yum!
Guest guest
Hi Melisa! Wow! What a ridiculous fight you had on your hands! You might want to try going to the next level to get that wheelchair approved. I believe that would be the California Insurance Commission. But, wow, good for you for sticking it to them all by yourself and getting such a quick response! You must have a way with words and I think you'll be a FABULOUS paralegal! I sure hope the surgery gives you relief from your back pain. Keep us updated when you can, okay? Hugs! Tracey > You know you're drug drunk when.
