I am so with you !!!! I have this last 15 pounds which I have carried

with me forever. I can't workout anymore than I do (when I am not sick) I

need to increase the intensity of my current workouts and cut out the

junkfood and a bit back on the alcohol. Since being sick I have been binge

eating like crazy. Grrrrr

Good luck !!!!!

I've spent too much of my life promising myself that I'd start tomorrow which would turn into the next day and the next and the next and eventually never happen!

That is totally me!! I always say I will start tomorrow! In fact I said that yesterday. Then after I ate the rest of the pumpkin pie in my fridge from lunch today, I said that I will start again tomorrow! I am going to make an effort to make tomorrow it!! I know that I have to lower my calorie intake in order to lose. That is how I did it before. And that's how I'll do it again :) I feel really confident that I will be able to keep the weight off when I do finally lose it! You should see the way I eat! Seriously, I must take in 3000 calories or more some days! It's crazy! I am amazed that I have not gained any of the weight back!! I know that if I cut down a bit, the weight will come off, it's just a matter of doing it! We can do it Jen :) I really will "start tomorrow" and hopefully this will be my last slip off the weight loss wagon!

I have to say it: where are you going to find 15 pounds to lose? LOL! You look great! But I can understand not wanting to binge anymore and wanting to cut back on alcohol and junk food! We can do it :)

, I'd like to join you in this new resolution. I have fallen off the

healthy eating wagon myself since our LA trip. I just got into this attitude

that I could eat whatever I wanted because I exercised so much. Wrong! I

mean I can eat more, but I can't be at my ideal weight if I keep eating like

that. I vow to stop grabbing the treats every one brings into the office

and to eat fewer desserts (instead, just 2 per week). It's a start for me.

Thanks for motivating me.

had the willpower to lose 20lbs (no small feat) you can continue on this

path..but as you already know that entails not only exercise but making

lifestyle changes especially the " junk " food..I will be here to help ya along

the way and will be rooting for your renewed goals..

Thank you...lol. But it is there. I carry my weight where it is not healthy

to carry my abdomen and my bust. I need to loose that weight so that I can

really see if I need a reduction or a lift ;-) I'm also suppose to keep my

weight around 125 or less because of my back but I usually hover in the 140

range.

I was so stressed about the move that I was having a beer or glass of wine

every time we went out to dinner in Austin. I made it my goal that once we

got into the new apartment I would only drink three times before the new

year: Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years eve. So far I've stuck to it.

(one week!!!) My mother and father always had a drink or two in the evening

when I was growing up. I adopted that habit. However, until I cut calories in

other areas (less french dip more veggies) I need to cut out the empty

calories my favorite Zinfindel provides.

I think we really need to take the knowledge we have and put it to practical

use. Easier said that done, but it has to be done. I'm making small changes.

My two small changes for right now are to remember that oftentimes

dehydration is masked by hunger so when I got the munchies I am trying to

reach for a glass of water or two before I start to graze. I am also trying

to incorporate more warm liquids into my diet as they make me feel full. I

eat fast so I often don't know when I have eaten enough, tea, coffee or a

broth soup before a meal can help me sate that hunger a bit.

I had a horrible experience right before I left Austin that still bugs me. I

went out to lunch with a friend of mine who trains for triathalons and

follows the BFL program. We went to an Indian place and we didn't eat that

much. Following the meal I had to use the restroom (me and my small bladder).

Well the toilet wouldn't flush so I probably spent longer in the bathroom

than I needed to. When I got back my friend eyed me suspiciously and said

" you didn't just go purge did you? " . I hadn't and I felt awfult that she had

even asked me that. It has been years since I really had problems and this

new friend had no idea that I had ever gone through that. I am trying to make

small changes in my life, I don't starve myself, sometimes I over-exercise

but not to the point I did when I was in high school. I have no idea how to

take this comment and it has been bothering me for a while. I know that was

off the topic, but it is always in my mind as I decide which changes are too

extreme and which are not.

,

I can understand why that would bother you. Try not to be offended. I am sure your friend probably said that out of concern. Maybe she has had those kinds of problems in the past and in projecting it onto you? Who knows. But I am sure she probably didn't mean to offend you.

Congratulations on not drinking! I think it's a good idea to make small changes like you are doing. I know what you mean about going to extremes sometimes. I am like that too. Try to keep your head about things and remember that health is the number one goal :) Maybe we should start up another healthy eating 21 DC?

Those two things above are key ingredients for me and keeping on a healthy

diet. For some reason, saying it out loud or stating it publicly helps

reinforce our motivation.

Also keeping a food journal is very handy. Sometimes I don't realize that

I've been snacking all day, into I reach into the bag, and low and

behold...there are only crumbs!

What also helps me is to cook ahead of time for meals and healthy snacks at

work and also for home for a few nights. The nights I work out, we have

leftovers at home or my boyfriend has been cooking (but his vacation ends on

Monday). That way I don't sacrifice one thing for the other and am able to

still eat healthy and get my workout in.

Thank you Jen, I know she wasn't trying to be insesntive and probably said

the comment out of concern for me. She has recently had some wonderful

successes in her own weightloss and fitness goals. I just didn't know that my

occassional weight paranoia was that obvious to my friends that I rarely

discuss these issues with. I also worry that I still come across as obsessive.

Thanks so much for sharing your story with us! I really admire you

for making your goals public. Also, I want to thank you for being so

open and honest about how you are/were feeling and doing with your

eating!! I was feeling sort of ashamed/guilty because I've been kind

of going through the same thing lately. I'd say for about the past 3

weeks, I've had days where I've just had a 'hell with it' attitude

and ate whatever I wanted....which is okay except that on some of

those days I just didn't eat anything I wanted but I also ate AS MUCH

AS I wanted which was too much, too often! :-) just like you, I've

kept on exercising and that has helped temper any guilt I've had on

those days when I have eaten far more than my body needs. But, just

like you, I've seen my weight loss slow down if not entirely halt (I

can't be sure because I don't weigh or measure myself).

Today was supposed to be the day where I'd get back on track and

start making healthier food choices...then I had a really yucky day

at work and decided " oh piss on it, I'll start tomorrow " . I hate

this!! I've spent too much of my life promising myself that I'd

start tomorrow which would turn into the next day and the next and

the next and eventually never happen!! LOL I understand that right

now, I may need to lower my caloric intake if I want to lose weight.

Yet,I try not to eliminate any of my favorite foods and I know that I

need to make this way of eating a lifestyle not something temporary.

So, you see, I'm trying to keep a healthy and balanced attitude

towards my eating. But, the fact still remains that if I want to

lose weight, I may need to skip some of my favorite treats or limit

their portions more often that I would have to if I was just trying

to maintain my weight. Anyway, I digress!! :-) I wanted to let you

know, that I'm right with ya, sweetie! Starting NOW!!! I'm going to

work harder at making more conscious decisions about what I put in my

mouth. Thank you so much for having the courage to share with

us....it really helped me to feel okay to share, too, and to also be

honest with myself about what I'd been doing with my eating habits!!

Jen

Sandie,

Hang in there..you will loose those last couple pounds..sometimes you have to

step up your workout and shock your metabolism again to get moving..or do you

lift weights..the muscle you build w/ weights burns the fat faster then say

say aerobic activity..both are beneficial in their own respect..but if you

are at a plateau, look at another angle..and kick start your system again...I

know you can and will do it...

I recently just made the commitment that my promises of " tomorrow " had to

stop also. What helped me was to do a slow and gradual process. My two

biggest problems are snacking and not getting enough protein in. So I

started by committing to eat more protein in 2 of my 3 main meals and to

limit my snacking to 2 small snacks a day rather than all day long snacking.

Once I started doing that, I really had more motivation to add protein

back into my third meal..which is breakfast and I don't do protein well in

the morning <G>. Then I slowly started trying to commit to making each meal

healthier. Better sources of carbohydrates and fat and more protein. I got

out all my " million " diet/cookbooks and poured over them and the internet

one afternoon and compiled a big recipe list. I looked for recipes that

were healthy and quick & easy to make. Something about trying a new recipe

makes it more exciting even if it is supposed to be " healthier " .

I also didn't completely cut out desserts and 'sweets' because for me that

would lead to some horrible binging :( There are a few desserts that are

good enough to " cure a sweet tooth " , but not necessarily gourmet <G>. One

of my favorite things is fat free sugar free jello with a tad of low fat

whipped cream on top. Also sugar free, fat free pudding made with nonfat

milk is a pretty decent dessert also. I think for a 1/2 cup serving it is

approx. 80 cals. I also put a dab of whipped cream on top. This sounds

crazy but somehow if the food " looks prettier or more appealing " it just

seems to satisfy me better.

You made me giggle when you mentioned the pumpkin pie, because that

When I got back my friend eyed me suspiciously and said

> " you didn't just go purge did you? " .

Oh !

I'm so sorry someone said such a thing to you!! I know that she is a

friend of yours, but frankly, I kinda think that her comment was

rather unsensitive. Having had my own long and sordid past with

bulimia, I can totally understand how you're not sure which way to

take that comment. I know if it were me, I'd be thinking things

along the lines of 'what, do I look so sick and tired, wrung out and

just plain awful that you would think I'm bingeing and purging'

or 'what are you saying? are you trying to say that I could stand to

lose a few pounds so it wouldn't surprise you to find out that I may

have become so obsessed as to get involved with an eating disorder?'

Oh, the wonderful things our brains can conjure up! :-) (I hope I

haven't given you any new things to worry about)!!

I guess, what I've come to understand over the years is that most

people are pretty sensitive when they make comments about others'

eating habits. The only time I've gotten really unsensitive or rude

comments it has been from people who have never really had issues

with their eating or weight....they just don't really understand what

it is like to have an eating disorder and how disruptive it can be in

your life. My dad never could understand why I just " couldn't quit "

and that the bulimia was some sort of character flaw or act of

willfullness/rebellion on my part. Take heart, , I'm sure

that whatever her comment was, she never, ever meant for it to hurt

you or cause you to worry!!

mostly, with a few mistakes here and there. And good excuses-like the walkathon. Last week I did not go, because I decided to go to the 5:30am class on Wednesday-well, guess what, there is no 5:30am class on the weekdays---where I got that idea, I have no idea.

I hope to be better tomorrow morning, so I can go. And I wish they had 5:30am weekday classes, I could go to those so easily. :)

So I haven't been prefect, but am trying and always thinking about how to squeeze the WTC into my very full life (can't wait for grad school to be finished---August, here I come!!).
