Hello !

Welcome to the group!

I too have a daughter, (12years), with autism. I live in

Tennessee. Where do you live? East or West Tennessee?

One of the best words of advice that I could give you is to get a

diagnosis from more than one doctor. Get a pyschologist & neurologist

involved. Get them to give you a " prognosis " containing exact number of

hours of each therapy that you need. Make sure that they are specific

and in writing! Make sure they specify whether the therapies are to be

in group or individual. Also, when you go to a pyschologist, he/she will

do a simple test to make sure that ABA is the best way to teach your

daughter. This was very impressive for my husband and I. It solidified

the fact that we needed to get a program in place immediately. We did

and just as others on the board have told you, it is intense and very

measurable doing the program defined (ABA). There is a really good book

" Let me hear your voice " by Maurice. She also helped write a

manual that you can purchase called " Behavioral intervention for young

children with Autism " by pro-ed in Texas. Trust me, everything you ever

wanted to know about ABA is in that book and what needs to be addressed

in order.

I wish you the best in your quest finding out what works for Kendra. Do

not be discouraged. This board and many others out there will help you

when you need it. And when you do want to sit and cry, DO! For

everything there is a time and season. I know first hand the death to a

dream but I found out that there was another plan and another dream that

God had for and us and I have faith that this too shall pass.
