Guest guest
Terri Please remind me where your niece lives? If you think your SIL and family and your niece would be open to it I think Yoga and meditation sessions with an emphasis on breathwork and guided visualizations could be helpful. If she is in Eastern MA I can help. Melinda
Guest guest
How old is your niece. My daughter who is 18 likes to do the fake cough, clearing of the throat etc. but ususally after she has been around my dad who has a habit of clearing his throat. Is your niece verbal? Can she read? What about a social story of some sort. Jane Theresa wrote: Hello everyone. I hope you all have had a wonderful Holiday week. My PDD daughter is making great strides and has been very social lately. It is like a blessing. In other more depressing news my niece that I posted about is still coughing. She is still having major anxiety fits and crying all the time. They are still unable to find a way to treat her and are now trying different meds for the anxiety. She cannot calm down long enough to do any type of breathing exercises to help her get better. The strange part of this is that if she is in her room by herself she stops coughing. As soon as she hears footsteps on the stairs to her room she begins immediately to hyperventilate. It really isn't a cough but I don't know what else to call it. it is a horrendous noise that comes out of her. I have been to visit twice and have taken her younger sister to stay with us once. The entire family is crumbling under the stress of this. I am planning on posting the details of this once the nightmare is over. I want it out there somewhere so that no other child ever has to go through this. My sister-in-law is planning on writing a book. She is now at the 2 month point. no school, no out, nothing. Any suggestions are still welcome and appreciated. Terri
Guest guest
HI Melinda, That probably would be great but she is at a point of anxiety where getting dressed is a problem. She is sobbing all day and once she gets worked up her low CO2 level makes her just pass out. She really cannot leave the house anymore. If she comes out of her room she starts to fall apart. Everything I have read says that relaxation and breathing will be the key once they can calm her down. Thank you for your thoughts Terri Re: Habit cough Terri Please remind me where your niece lives? Guest guest
Have they tried taking her to a child psycholgist or psychiatrist? Seems like she needs some major anxiety help. Guest guest
OK Terri. Let me know if/whenever this family would like an in-home ( in bedroom!) session for this child. I would be happy to help if I could. Melinda

Guest guest
HI Diane, Yes they are in the middle of doing that. She has just started a new med to help control the anxiety.
