Guest guest
Hi : Methotrexate is actually one of the oldest and most well researched med that can be used for RA. I started out on Plaquenil which did well for me for a long time, but then the RA became more aggressive, and I was started on Mtx instead. This med has helped me, and I have been on it for the past three years. I take it in conjunction with Enbrel and other meds. The side effects I have experienced have been dry skin and fragile skin, some hair loss, easy bruising, and sometimes headache the day after I take Mtx. I take it on Friday night before bed so that I am able to sleep through any nausea. Also the day after, I am usually more fatigued. You do have to get blood work done every 8 weeks to check on your liver enzymes - I have never had a problem with that. I also take Milk Thistle and Folic Acid to help cut down the side effects of Mtx. Hope this helps - Kathe in CA --- <reitzj@...> wrote: > Hi all, > I saw the rheumatologist for the first time > today.
