Guest guest
Okay, I have a great question for all of you. , age 12 (autism), has inverted nipples. I asked a doctor a couple of years ago and he said that I should not be concerned unless she is going to breastfeed! I would think that this is not normal. Should I be concerned? I checked the archive of posts and did not see a topic concerning this. She has not started her period yet and although I have 3 other girls older, this has not happened with them at all. What would you all do if this was the case with your girl? Any medical professionals on the board that can say what to do? Guest guest
Shanna, About 10% of girls are born with inverted nipples, so it is really quite common and very " normal " for some girls. Some girls' nipples appear inverted before puberty, but then when their breasts develop, the nipples correct themselves. Sometimes, they remain inverted, but it is absolutely nothing to be concerned about. If you show concern and draw her attention to them, then she could become self conscious and think there is something " wrong " with her. In spite of what your doctor said, many women with inverted nipples are able to successfully breast feed. There are methods to help draw the nipple outward so the baby can attach properly. It may require a little more work, but is surely worth the effort. > Okay, I have a great question for all of you. , age 12 (autism), > has inverted nipples. Guest guest
As far as Im aware it's part of normal human variation. At least that's what my health book said (no, really). It's not pathological unless they used to stick out and then one started flipping in, as i recall. Guest guest
LOL>>>LOL>>>>LOL I loved your response, ! Yes, she has started developing but she is so overweight it is not like myself or other girls when they developed. She does have one that seems to be trying to correct itself. That is so strange but I guess it happens. Thanks so much for giving me your advice. Shanna (mother to 5) ps. Still hoping for a cruise! LOL Theresa wrote: Hi Shanna, My NT daughter is 12. When she was much younger she had the same issue. When I addressed it at the pediatrician, he told me that girls often grow out of it and he said the same thing about breast feeding. Once my daughters breast began to develop the problem corrected itself. Has your daughter begun to develop? Geez, the things we talk about....as a side note, my daughter developed one breast before the other. It was only a small amount but it was noticeable. My son called her uniboob. And these are my children that don't have issues. Terri inverted nipples Okay, I have a great question for all of you. , age 12 (autism), has inverted nipples. Guest guest
LOL Missy, I actually looked this up on google and I was surprised that men sought out surgery for this. I can see that this can bother men too though. They are people too. Shanna (mother to 5) Missy and Brent Pearsall wrote: I have to share something funny. My husband has inverted nipples. Guest guest
ROFL, that sounds like something I would want to do! I think my brother has them, I always remember thinking he looked odd there, like he had these little holes where it should point out. I told Shanna today both my first cousins (non genetic) have inverted nips. They both tried to breastfeed, but neither was all that interested, not much family support (live a few hundred miles from me) so they quit. Debi > > I have to share something funny.
