Subject: [lapods] Fw: Repost of Stanford Genetic Counseling Student SurveyTo: "SVDSN Yahoo Group" <svdsnet >, "lapods " <lapods >Date: Monday, December 5, 2011, 9:37 AM

Hi, Everyone I am reposting this at the request of a student in the Master's program in Genetic Counseling at Stanford University. She is trying to do some research on how prenatal diagnoses are delivered and is trying to see how can improve their role in the event of a prenatal diagnosis. She has only received 3 or 4 responses so far and needs to have upwards of 15 to write her paper. I'd like to do whatever possible to help support students and future professionals who are in the pipeline who help our families. With more up-to-date info they have from our families, they can make changes that will improve the process for families who follow on this path. Please forward or feel free to post to other groups. There is no geographic restriction for her study. Thank you in advance! Marcy --- From the student:

Here is a short description of the study and the requirements to participate: The purpose of this research study is to learn about when women make the decision to continue pregnancies diagnosed with Down syndrome and how women feel about learning their child’s diagnosis of Down syndrome during pregnancy. The criteria to participate in this study are:1) You have a child with Down syndrome whose birth date falls between the years 2007-2010, and2) You had a prenatal diagnostic test (CVS or amniocentesis) and learned about your child’s diagnosis while you were pregnant.

Many thanks to those of you who have already submitted responses to the Prenatal Down Syndrome Diagnosis survey. We really appreciate your thoughts and input and we would like to hear from more of you! Your perspectives are valuable to genetic counselors' clinical practice and will help us to improve care for other families of children with Down syndrome. And remember, as a thanks for your time we are offering a Starbucks gift card to all participants, so please follow this link add your voice to the discussion and the gift card will be on its way to you soon! Survey responses will be collected until December 31.
