Guest guest
Still could be a virus. I used to work in daycare and we had an outbreak of rotovirus, kids were out for weeks with vomiting and diarrhea, often the only symptom. Some kids also had fevers, but not all of them. It's a nasty virus and can last a long time. If she's not eating much, that could be why she isn't having bowel movements, especially if she's still throwing up what she is taking in. I'd stay away from the pediasure for now, dairy almost always makes tummy troubles worse, and if she's throwing it up, it's not providing the nutrition anyway. Stick with the applesauce and rice cereal or toast if you can get her to eat that. If she's still sick on Tuesday, call the ped again and explain your concerns about her weight. Amnesty > > Hello Ladies, has been sick since wed. Night. She has had vomiting. We had her to the doctor on friday, the gave her phenegran and sent her home telling me to keep her on pedialyte. Last night she wasn't vomiting as much so we allowed her to have a little rice cereal mixed with water but she did vomit that up. Later she had a little applesauce and kept that down. She only vomited once during the night so this morning we let her have her pediasure (which is her main source of nutrition) But now she is vomiting again. She just doesn't seem right. She is so lethargic and really hasn't moved more then a few feet in days unless we move her. > The doctor didn't seem to concerned but it is really bothering me. I just feel something is not right. She was down almost 2 pounds in weight compared to her weight in september. She is down to 26 pounds. > She is wetting diapers finally so I don't think she is dehydrated like the other day but her bowels are not moving. > Any idea's what this could be. She has no other symptons so I don't think its the flu. > > Thanks > Missy > >
Guest guest
Missy, One thing I've learned is that you must listen to your instincts as a mom, particularly of a child who has difficulty verbalizing what she is feeling. That is way too long to allow vomiting to go on. If it were gastroenteritis ( " stomach flu " ), it would be long gone by now. If you think she does not seem right and looks lethargic, and your regular doctor will not listen to you, then take her to the ER or urgent care. It's good that she is wetting, but you want to make sure she does not have a bowel obstruction or something else that requires immediate attention. Don't wait!
