Thanks Pat in so Ore Dr. Dryland's Fibromyalgia Update for September 2005 New Clinical Studies Link Dopamine and Fibromyalgia If you're familiar with Dr. Dryland and his book The Fibromyalgia Cure, then you already understand how decreased levels of dopamine directly affect fibromyalgia pain. The medical community is starting to catch up. A placebo controlled 14- week trial designed to study the effects of treating fibromyalgia with Mirapex found that 42 percent of patients experienced significant pain relief (50 percent reduction or more) compared to 14 percent of patients taking the placebo. Mirapex, a drug typically used to treat Parkinson's patients, simulates the role of the neurotransmitter dopamine. The study was conducted by Dr. Holman, a rheumatologist and member of the advisory board of the National Fibromyalgia Association. Dr. Holman, who wrote the foreword to Dr. Dryland's book, privately funded this research when his own patients experienced pain reduction with Mirapex. Dr. Holman noted " This may be the highest response of overall improvement of fibromyalgia symptoms of any single medication tested so far. " Patients also reported substantial improvements in function and fatigue. Many of Dr. Dryland's patients have eliminated the pain associated with fibromyalgia by increasing their dopamine levels naturally or by taking Mirapex.
