Guest guest
My daughter Lara is 14 1/2 and is very similar. She too is over weight in the stomach area. Combination of not being able or care to do the right exercise and also the medication that makes her eat. Makes finding the right size pants a chore. She also has indicated on so many occasions that she didn't want to grow up. She is only now starting to realise that based on her age that like it or not she IS growing up. As far as looking a lot younger, I think that it is fairly common. I see other girls in my daughters school that are 18 and 21 and look more like 12 or 14. I had an Au Pair from Germany that worked in a self contained community for kids/adults with special needs and she remarked how they didn't seem to age. Something about all the stress and worry in the NT world that really takes its toll on the rest of us. If you find the fountain of youth - don't forget to share!Loren Looking Younger than actual age Date: Sat, 30 Dec 2006 14:39:16 -0000 My daughter, (12), looks a lot younger than she is. I think she has such a baby face. It is like her face doesn't belong with her body. She is very overweight in the stomach area. She has actually told us that she does not want to grow up. She also says that she wants us to find the fountain of youth! lol. (Don't we all wish for this?)
Guest guest
My could eat up a storm and still looks like a skinny minny. Guess it’s her metabolism. On the plus side, we save money at restaurants and she can get on the NJ beaches that have a beach fee for ages 15 or older. In a one piece suit and her cute face, she always looks around 12-13 years old LOL. _____ From: Autism_in_Girls [mailto:Autism_in_Girls ] On Behalf Of loren hofmeister Sent: Saturday, December 30, 2006 4:18 PM To: Autism_in_Girls Subject: Re: Looking Younger than actual age My daughter Lara is 14 1/2 and is very similar. Guest guest
I've heard OT's say that some of the " baby face " is due to low tone and flat affect. Kids with flat affect don't exercise their facial muscles with smiling, frowning, and their faces look more babyish. > > My daughter, (12), looks a lot younger than she is. Guest guest
I thought this was so interesting! When (age 12) was born, she was youngest of 5 children, I was so shocked at how floppy she was. She had so low muscle tone. She also showed signs of autism at age 3 months. She would push away after nursing and not look at me. She also would stare at her hands for 6 hours at a time. I never knew anyone with autism growing up. I had never seen Rainman. I actually thought (in 1996) when the doctor told me she was might be autistic that he said " artistic " ! I know this sounds unbelievable after having 5 children but I led a sheltered life. Guest guest
Loren, I haven't really done meds in the past couple of years on my daughter, (12yrs). We want to approach that this year. She just started swallowing pills this past year. We figure that this will open up a lot more medications. In the past we had to have them compounded and lots could not be. Dont worry, you and the whole world will hear if we find the FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH!lol Shanna > > My daughter Lara is 14 1/2 and is very similar. She too is over weight > in the stomach area.
