Hi,

It's been about a week since I posted last regarding the ocd/tic trend in my

daughter's class. It has been one of the longest weeks in my life. Since they

were on school vacation, I made little progress in getting more info on the

third child in the class, and am still waiting to find out if that family will

talk to me. I heard from the adjustment counselor that the child is no longer

having issues - but we don't know why. (I, of course, am wondering if there was

an infection that was treated w/abx.)

My daughter started antibiotics (omnicef) exactly one week ago today. I have

also been giving her ibuprofin. We have not seen any improvement. In fact the

vacation week at home was full of contamination fears. We were stuck at home

most of the time, because she's to afraid to walk or drive down the streets

leading to our house (contaminated two weeks ago by an ambulance driving down).

We did finally get an order to have the ASO/Anti D Nase B tests done. Now, I

just have to figure out how to get her to the blood drawing station. (There home

visit phlebotomists and Visiting Nurses only do adults).

I still have a little hope that she will respond to the antibiotics, based on

her allergic reaction to Amoxycillan when she was 18 months. She had a ten day

dose and on day 14 exploded in hives. Maybe her body processes the medicine

slowly?? (Am I grasping at straws?) But I also realize we may be looking at

traditional OCD and the next step may be an SSRI.

The boy with the tics that tested positive for strep and started antibiotics has

shown incredible improvement with temperament and behaviors, but still has the

head tic. He is one day ahead of us with the antibiotics.

I am also trying to get in touch with three different specialists in Boston. I

missed Dr. Geller's return call last night. (Ugh!) My daughter's clinical

history was sent to Dr. Fuhlbrigge so we can make an appointment (he is booking

into May - Ugh!) We also have an email into the head of children's infectious

disease at Floating Hospital.

If anyone has any thoughts, I'd love to hear them. Otherwise, I guess I'm just

venting (which is fine, too).

Thanks,

Kara
