Hi Judy- My sister has been on Effexor for years- it makes her capable of being

nice to me. I never heard her say there were any negative effects.  But I

havegone off Ativan (lorezampam) and it took two-three weeks for it to get out

of my system and for my muscles to stop spasming (even my tongue and epiglotis)-

it was very difficult.  Hang in there.

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with Effexor? My doc put me on

it ,so I can eventually go off the klonopin I have been on for 20 + years.I'm

still on the klonopin.

This is my 3rd day and I feel like crap. Up all night, when I do sleep, it's

horrible nightmares. I feel nervous and can't stand to have anyone talk to me. I

almost feel similar to the withdrawal off of the benzo's

Any similar experiences with yourselves or your children?

Any info would be appreciated

Hugs

my husband took effexor for years, then switched to Pristiq when it came out- it

is supposed to be just like Effexor, but fewer side effects. He wasn't having

trouble with side effects, though, although I'm sure he had some those first few

days as he adjusted to it. The only side effect he seemed to have that continued

was taking a nap every day he had a chance to.

He started it to help him deal with job stress, but another positive effect was

that it really made him a much more pleasant husband! He would tend to become

easily irritated and critical, but since starting Effexor has been so much more

laid-back . He has taken it for about 9 years, except for maybe a year and a

half...but the work stress started getting to him again after awhile. Hope it

helps you as much as it has helped him!

Klonopin is a benzodiazipine and I think you must be having some withdrawal

after all that time. Sometimes withdrawal can be dangerous. Perhaps you need

to wean off more slowly. Sometimes drugs like tegretol are necessary to ease

withdrawal. I think you should call your doctor and discuss it with him.

Hope you feel better soon,

Bonnie

Good luck. Just go as slow as you need to and when you get down to almost

nothing - even go every other day. It should help. I'm a nurse and I know how

" ignorant " even doctors can be. I have learned a little bit too helping my son

wean on and off things.

Hi Bonnie,

Thanks!! Yes, I agree with you. The doctor I had before had me cutting the pill

in half every other day and tried to practicaly wean me off in a less than a

week. I know better now. I will shave a little off the pills every day until I

get down to nothing!!(lol)
