Guest guest
Hi all, My 10.5 year old daughter is lower functioning and mainly nonverbal, so is unable to tell us about herself. Pain, hurt, where etc.. For the last week I have been noticing an oder when I change her diaper. She is just at the beginning of diaper training, and we have hope that finally the switches are clicking so it will be soon. Anyway we always wipe her front to back, very well, and change her diapers frequently so I know it's not that. She also has no rash, or redness that is apparent. The school just sent home a note in her daily log that the para noticed a strong smell when she took her to the bathroom. It's not a urine or poop smell, it's more of a...well tuna fishy smell. I have been even more diligent in keeping her clean, which wasn't a problem to begin with. I have never had a yeast infection, so I am in the dark about if this could possible be it. She doesn't seem in pain, not whinny, no protesting when she urinates. She doesn't seem in any distress, but the smell is persitent. Please anyone with ideas? She is on the GFCFSF diet, eats organic, no MSG, artifical sweeteners, dyes, ingredients, no modified foods or additives, no nitraites, no nitrites....... You get the idea, so she is not eating bad, nor have there been any recent changes to her diet or supplements. I thought since this was for girls, you would have the best ideas. So many of my other lists are filled with the boys... Thanks so much, Rhonda
Guest guest
Rhonda, That is likely bacterial vaginosis. The odor is caused by a compound known as trimethylamine, which has produces a strong " fishy " smell. Your daughter has an imbalance of good and bad bacteria. A topical gel of metronidazole is often used to treat this, and it is highly recommended that you replenish her good bacteria with a combination of probiotics and inulin (a pre-biotic). > Hi all, > > My 10.5 year old daughter is lower functioning and mainly nonverbal, > so is unable to tell us about herself. Guest guest
Thank you so much. She did test last year with hardly any good bacteria, and high in some bad ones. So the imbalance fits. We just ran out of the probiotics, she's been on them for over a year. I'm waiting for the new order to arrive. Thanks! Rhonda
