Guest guest
My 16 year old niece has had so much school failure in high school due to attentional and organization deficits. When the school system finally agreed to start the IEP classification process she was in a highly anxious state about school. She vomits at the thought of going to school or doctors or therapists etc . Has not been in school for over a month. Has failured her first quarter classes. She is not OCD but does have a high level of social anixety. She hates the scruntiny of talking to anyone other than joking around. Reasoning is not working with her or any kind of education on anxiety. Do you think that it is a good strategy to have her earn her phone or computer time by seeing a therapist or psychiatrist? She is content to stay at home and socialize with her siblings and avoid the world and school. At 16 can we or should we force a teen into treatment by taking away teen stuff like phones computers if they don't really want treatment? She is not suicidal or disruptive. She does have a social anxiety disorder it seems. Pam
