Guest guest
letter (not mine) to an editorhere http://www.jsonline.com/news/opinion/letters23-f63hfel-136115178.htmlChilling article on Down syndrome I found myself furtively reading an article on the new pregnancy screening for Down syndrome in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel as if it were some sort of contraband ("Improved test for Down syndrome," Dec. 20). While I was at my own kitchen table, my 14-year-old son with Down syndrome, who is a daily reader of the Sports section of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, was in and out of the room. It sends chills down my spine to think that he would read about parents, medical professionals and others who feel that those with Down syndrome are unworthy of a life in our society. Since when is my son, a die-hard Brewer fan and a sweet, compassionate young man, not good enough for the human race? Sure, we "typical folk" may need to stretch our vision of life a bit, but isn't that our job? Why can't we welcome diversity? Trying to stamp out people with Down syndrome from the fabric of society is nothing short of genocide.
