Guest guest
Finally got tired of the squirrels jumping the bird feeder. They figured out how to reach it from several locations and got around all the protections I put up, though not the elaborate ones I had planned. I simply moved the feeder back to where it originally had been even though that means I won't be able to see it as well and pictures might not be as good. I also had to take down the suet feeder because they were getting on it too. That's fine. I have another post that I can hang that on, one that has been up for years now. I need to get a new hanger to mount it on, but those aren't expensive. Might also move the post over a little bit so I can see it more easily from the side window. All I would have to do is dig a new little hole for it which would be no big deal. I'll probably just leave it where it is though. The hanging feeder is going to stay where it is though. The squirrels can jump on it, but it closes up on them like it is designed to. The squirrel feeders are also going to stay where they are. It is interesting that the two jumping squirrels were both males. One of them today went around to the front yard and went to where one of the feeders used to be, thus indicating they have a long term memory. Too bad though because I'm not putting it back out there. The problem is that their numbers are so great, they eat up the food that used to last them all day in an hour or two. I don't put out more than just the once a day hoping to get them to spread out some, but so far they are still coming here a few at a time or in one big rush of 8 or 9 of them.
