I feel your pain. We Got a letter letting us know they overpaid Preston close to $10,000.00! So INSANE!!! I hate Social Security people big time. This has been EXTREMELY stressful on our family. is 6 yrs old, and after trying for the 3rd time, we finally qualified for him to get SSI, a year ago Aug. We didn't receive the maximum amount we'd been told we could receive, but we were grateful for what we did receive. It helped immensely to buy his vitamins and supplements, goat's milk, specialty foods (as in special flour and organic foods), and new car seat/booster seat, needed clothing, and other things to benefit his development and learning. After several months, without any explanation, his amount was cut, almost in half. My husband appealed, but they run you around until you are so confused and they have some kind of justification for their new figures, and you can't really do anything about it. Then, a few months later, his amount was nearly cut in half again. This time, we discovered it had something to do with our daughter who is in college, that they had made an error about her birthday and had her turning 22 a couple

months early. So, they did issue another check that brought his total up to what we had been receiving. But only for another couple months, as she does turn 22, next month, and then the amount will be cut, regardless of the fact that she still lives at home and is still technically our dependent. It is their policy that she no longer counts as a dependent once she turns 22, so 's SSI gets cut. And there isn't anything we can do about that.

Then, yesterday, we get this letter stating that they have overpaid in the last 15 months a grand total of $1,450.66 and that we have to pay it back!!! So, they propose to take another $67.40. off his check each month for the next 2 years until has paid them back!!! So, my husband finds out it is because of our house. He is a pastor and we live in a church parsonage so they say that the rental value of the house should have been added onto our income and it wasn't. Well, we gave them all the information that they asked for and held nothing back from them. We did not lie about our house. If they failed to figure it correctly, then it was their mistake, not ours!!! I'm sorry, but it is just WRONG to penalize and say that he has to pay it back!!! And that is what my husband is telling them. But we don't know if it will do any good. So, if we can't buy his vitamins and supplements, and gets sick and needs lots of doctoring and

medicine and ends up even in the hospital, he is on state insurance, so they will end up paying the bills.

Sorry to hear this. We're in overpayment/repayment because it took them months

to process the income adjustment I GAVE THEM WHEN I WAS HIRED to a new job,

putting us over the income to get SSI. I also went for an admin hearing because

I, like you, held nothing back and was TIMELY unlike them. You really have to

watch SSA. They make up the rules as they go, say you're overpaid, then try to

CYA when you call them on it. I think its done this way to get people to not

even bother with government assistance.
